Focus?
The long, detailed sections on brewing should be at Brewing rather than here. This article should focus more on brewery issues and the general history of breweries. 24.221.121.232 17:00, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
- I agree, and when I get an opportunity I'll do just that. There's a lot of good technical information here. You can call me Al 15:50, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
This may be another place that the sections on brewing should be kept: Wikibooks - How To - Brewing--SupIAmMike 08:34, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Brewing
I have moved the excellent brewing section in its complete state to the Brewing page (which will now need some editing). I then edited a short version for this brewery page. SilkTork 16:38, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Just curious, but would you say that Brewing and Brewery have enough overlap to be considered in one article (they both go hand in hand), especially since there are other brewing techniques such as in cooking. Without the topic of brewing in the brewery article, there isn't much left. Perhaps suggesting a merge is in order (I for one don't know yet how to handle such a thing, so I won't attempt it at this time). Radagast83 18:55, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- It's a good point. My feeling is that brewing is the process of making beer, while a brewery is the building in which the brewing takes place. To get some sense of how such things can be written about in separate articles check out Firefighters and Fire Station, Police officer and Police Station, etc. There is scope for development of both Brewery and Brewing articles in different directions. Notability criteria discusion document
A discussion document has been opened up. Wikipedia:WikiProject Beer/Notability Criteria. Please put in your views either on the main page or on the attached talk page. If we want to list every brewery on the planet then I feel we should get some valid criteria behind us. SilkTork 16:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Worldwide view
This article should not just focus on beer unless the title is changed to Brewery (beer) and the specific focus is emphasized as such in the lead.
In East Asia, breweries are traditionally associated not with beer but with the brewing of soy sauce and alcoholic spirits such as sake, both of which have a very long and influential history. Bwithh 20:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
History
The article says "Although the Zatec brewery in the Czech Republic claims it can prove paying beer tax in 1004", are there any sources for this statement? http://www.zatec.co.uk/history.html mentions a date of 1261. 82.135.7.214 08:56, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Craft brewing
The article says that this term is replacing micro-brewery but in the UK micros are very much the order of the day, craft-brewing seemingly relating more to home brew here. Is there any way the term's americanism can be highlighted by someone more literate than myself? Cheers - Anomalous result (talk) 07:55, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- I added a fact tag so someone can put in a reference and maybe put some insight into the term. Even here in America I don't see it as a widespread change, infact I have never heard of microbrews being called craftbrews. Jons63 (talk) 12:47, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

- Was reading an industry periodical in the UK and the term does seem to be gaining popularity although when referring to the business it was termed a microbrewery, the product was craft-brewed. Perhaps the wiki is ahead of the times Anomalous result (talk) 07:30, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
