SLATT counter-terrorism training controversy
[edit]Initially I had added the following:
- A BJA program called State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training (SLATT) caused controversy because it suggested that activism for popular positions among the US public, like exiting the UN (exemplified with bumper stickers of the John Birch Society), pro-life, animal rights, environmentalism, and opposition to genetic engineering were indicators of potential terrorism.[1]
But the source I had found, The New American, despite having a somewhat balanced article, turned out to list the John Birch Society among its affiliate sites, so they are rather closely related to this controversy. Nothing more mainstream than TheBlaze and Alex Jones's infowars seem to have covered this. The slides themselves don't look as outlandish as these (not exactly unbiased) sources make them seem. The slide about GMOs for example shows that there were about 50 attacks (causing property damage) in the US. So I decided to remove the paragraph. 86.121.18.17 (talk) 17:35, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
