Translator[edit]

This guy was amazing. While disambiguating "Charles Johnston", I found a ref who translated a Russian verse novel. None of our guys with thsi name seemed to match, but I checked the reference to his papers. Sure enough, Charles Hepburn Johnston the diplomat, really did do this translation, and quite a few others, plus additional "literary" stuff. -Arch dude (talk) 16:53, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know that about him. How very interesting. I would never have created this article were if not for a mention of his name in my ex-mother in law's autobiography It Can't Be Forever (Tamara Jermolajew; Ginninderra Press, 2005 ISBN 1 74027 295 1.) Tamara had known Johnston's future wife Princess Natasha Bagration-Mukhranskaya when they both attended ladies college (Hopovo) back in Yugoslavia (p. 78), and when Johnston was posted to Australia, Natasha's name was mentioned in the newspapers. Tamara contacted her and she was invited to visit her in Canberra and re-establish their friendship, but her personal circumstances prevented this from happening (pp. 134-135). -- JackofOz (talk) 01:49, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
