Railway history
[edit]'By the year 1832, St. Rollox was consuming thirty thousand tons of coal a year. The system had not been designed to handle this volume. It just could not do so efficiently. He plunged into a study of possible solutions to the problem. His imagination and interest were fired by a new way of transporting people and freight. This involved using wagons, pulled by a steam engine, on iron rails laid on a level roadbed. He had heard of this from his good friend George Stephenson, the great railway engineer. he quickly realized this was the answer to his problem at St. Rollox.'
This is really sounding rather like a bedtime story. Stephenson launched the first passenger train. But freight had been drawn by steam-power on iron rails for many years before this. 86.148.132.69 (talk) 20:19, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Age
[edit]He was actually 71 he was born in 1767. It says that on his grave, so I don't know how you made a mistake on something so simple. 80.194.132.121 (talk) 07:50, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
