The 2008-2009 transition to Hanyu Pinyin in Taiwan

[edit]

How will this affect the Taiwanese names in Wikipedia? Atitarev (talk) 00:00, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Finally. They should have done this about 10 or 20 years ago. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 16:33, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect there will be a lot of resistance and requests/demands to make exceptions, especially for well-known and established names. Will Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung now be spelled Taibei, Gaoxiong, Taizhong? What about personal names - politicians, stars. --Atitarev (talk) 21:57, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it'll go through the standard WP bureaucratic process, basically - which means a massive discussion with people talking over each other that gets nothing done for months and months and months. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 14:38, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
