Merge

I think this stub should be merged with Transjordan for several reasons.

Transjordan (TJ) and Cisjordan are the same thing. Cisjordan is just a transliteration of say the Spanish word (or any Romance langauge for that matter) Cisjordania, which translates to English as Transjordan. I believe someone unfamiliar with the English lanaguge created this article as the main Transjordan article thinking Cisjordan was the correct terminology/title. This article will not grow, and has insufficient information to stand alone, but would make for a good addition to the TJ article. Qrc2006 19:53, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But Cisjordan typically refers to land on the west bank of the Jordan River (as it says in the article on the West Bank). I think it would be much better to merge it with the West Bank article. MERGE Yes, this article is quite superfluous. The historical, terminological, and current issues are all (or could all be) adequately addressed in the Transjordan and West Bank articles. "Cisjordan" should of course be redirected to "West Bank", and not to "Transjordan" (Qrc2006's remarks above are mistaken).

Cisjordan is a region in the Middle East. Cisjordan is defined as being the region west of the Jordan River and east of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered on the south by Egypt and on the north by Lebanon and Syria – essentially, the area of Palestine including Israel and Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The name Cisjordan is used in Romance languages like French and Italian (Cisjordanie in French and Cisgiordania in Italian) to refer to the West Bank. Cisjordan is often used in opposition to Transjordan, the old name of the Kingdom of Jordan.

Redirect

Given that Cisjordan is actually mentioned as an alternate name on the West Bank article, and not on the Palestine article, I think the former is a more accurate target and have changed the redirect to point back there. Robofish (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
