False information
[edit]It is not normal to reinforce the unreliability of wikipedia articles. Remember that this is an encyclopedia, it is not a place to give your opinion of an event. I say it again. There is no president or interim president in Haiti at present. there is a first interim who ensures the council of ministers in the absence of the president according to article 149 of the Haitian contistution. The correction must be made. moreover, what you are not mentioned in the sources presented Kitanago (Talk). 11:02, july 08 2021 (UTC-5)
- Kitanago's concerns about this are justified, but I have been reverted three times by different users after trying to address them, each time without explanation. To elaborate: the Haitian constitution says that when the office of President is vacant, the Council of Ministers executes its duties under the presidency of the PM. The PM is not then the President of Haiti, even with a modifier, but rather the presiding member of the Council. Wikipedia should make every effort to accurately represent Haiti's political institutions and not force them into the model of some other country for convenience's sake. Hence, in my changes, I said that Joseph "assumed presidential authority" rather than "became acting President." 73.71.251.64 (talk) 21:29, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- One of the reverts was by DiscoSpinster, who said, when I asked, that the article has sources identifying Joseph as acting President. Well, there are sources cited in support of the claim that he was AP, but if the sources said that in their text, they don't now. I'm going to try making the correction again, and I will insist that any revert come with an explanation. 73.71.251.64 (talk) 02:30, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- The term Presidency means office of a President. No source will say he is acting President after he has stepped down, only that he was so when he was in power. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 21:46, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Could I possibly have been clearer in my wording? Sources cited in the article, written in the week following the assassination, do not identify Joseph as acting President. Maybe they did at first, in the rush of reporting, but they do not now. The constitution does not support your inference. It's a subtle point, but one that carries political significance. 73.71.251.64 (talk) 05:50, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Just because they are sources from the week of the assassination, it doesn't make them irrelevant. That's not how Wikipedia or factual information works anywhere. Because Joseph would be holding the Presidency at that time, not after he stepped down. Thus we only mention he was acting President in past. Why would a source mention he is President when he is no longer the President? LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 10:27, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- No, you are still reading something different from what I wrote. Again: The cited articles, that were written during the period you claim that he was acting President, do not identify him as acting President. They identify him as Prime Minister in charge of the government, which he was. If those articles identified him any other way when the citations were added, they don't now. Recent sources identify Ariel Henry as PM in charge of the government. Do you understand now? 73.71.251.64 (talk) 20:15, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- If that is the case, I've already added sources that clearly identify him as acting President some days ago. The Constitution of Haiti also explicitly says the PM will hold the presidency (a word which refers to the office of the president). LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 07:46, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- You are not correct. The Constitution of Haiti states that the Council of Ministers exercises the executive power until the election of another president. The Prime Minister will be the president of the Council of Ministers. You cannot have it both ways and that is what you are trying to claim. Curious why you and a couple other contributors have jumped on this issue from day one of the assassination and made the claim first on Wikipedia that Claude Joseph was acting President? Joseph made the statement he was in charge. Because he states he is in charge that does not mean he is the "acting president" You and other contributors have made that leap all by yourselves and obviously you think that you have the power and legal authority to make Mr. Joseph whomever you wish him to be because you can write it down here on Wikipedia and then continue to push your own narratives as reality when others want to make correction to the real facts, not your misguided version of them.47.136.209.175 (talk) 04:52, 3 September 2021 (UTC) - Furthermore, no contributor that has pushed this "acting president" falsehood has bothered to insert one word into their inaccurate contributions that in fact Mr. Joseph was replaced as "Interim Prime Minister" a day or two before the assassination by the President and Council of Ministers and that Ariel Henry was appointed to become the new Prime Minister.47.136.209.175 (talk) 05:02, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
Background on Claude Joseph is Lacking
[edit]There seems to be little information on Claude Joseph including basic information such as date and place of birth, parents, etc. It seems that the only information that is available deals with his education and recent events. Can we get additional information for Mr. Joseph to make the article more complete? Jurisdicta (talk) 01:54, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
