Second name
[edit]I took out "or Niçard Country" from the first sentence, because that's not a real English name and no one uses it. It's an attempt at translating pays Niçois, but pays in French names of this kind doesn't mean "country", it means "district". If anyone wants to restore the name, it would be good to add a source. [edit]@Fayenatic london: Regarding your revert [1]. As the article says that the region received the name (my italic) County of Nice during the 15th century, it looks like there was neither an establishment nor a clear starting date. It is just a historical region. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:29, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Marcocapelle: If you maintain that the County of Nice had no establishment/starting date, then I suggest that you should remove all the references to one, from the infobox and the article text, not just the categories.
- I believe that categories should match the infobox, so I normally leave them in place if they follow from what is stated in the infobox.
- The article Duchy of Savoy implies that that Duchy acquired lands around Nice in 1388. That seems to be taken in this article as the start of the County of Nice. I don't know enough to remove that as a fact stated repeatedly in different places on this page.
- I therefore reinstated the categories, including – in particular – Category:14th-century establishments in the Kingdom of Sardinia, which will otherwise be empty.
- Please note that if you do remove all the references to 1388/14th century (including categories), then the page should be moved back up into Category:Kingdom of Sardinia. – Fayenatic London 20:54, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- According to French wp, in 1388 it became an administrative unit of the County of Savoy (not even of the Kingdom of Sardinia) initially under the name "Terres neuves de Provence" and only a lot later renamed in "Comté de Nice". I will at least remove the Kingdom of Sardinia reference. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:27, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- After some further consideration, 1108 seems to be a more appropriate year of establishment than 1388. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:33, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Merge suggestion
[edit]Suggest to merge this to Arrondissement of Nice as its history section and leave a redirect here. The article covers way earlier regional history than just the time that the region was called County of Nice. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:04, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
Grasse was annexed in 1792?
[edit]I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Grasse was annexed along with Provence in 1486 after the death of Charles du Maine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:6B1:C700:9118:6DCC:76FC:3A9A (talk) 16:18, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
