Courthouse Square Damaged but NOT totally destroyed

[edit]

Aerial News footage shows the Courthouse of Courthouse Square survived the fire. When looking for it in video footage remember that the Clock Tower part is not attached to it, as the show Ghost Whisperer does not use that part of it. But you can see the lawn in front of it. --Subman758 (talk) 16:12, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa, California

[edit]

When I noticed the mention of Petaluma, I began looking around for places that the BTTF crew might have considered filming the Courthouse Square parts of the movie in. While there were some promising parks, that didn't solve the issue of what building they were using for the "courthouse", as the courthouses appeared to mainly be in nearby Santa Rosa. That led me to a Courthouse Square in said town, split in two by Mendocino Ave. and lacking an actual courthouse, but it DID have an old building with an actual clock tower, not a gable, which may have been where the movie's makers got the idea from. The building is apparently called the "Empire Building" (see here), and the movie might, for all I know, have been written with that building in mind. 192.12.88.7 (talk) 09:32, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • If the Empire Building inspired them, it might have been because of the Mono County courthouse in Bridgeport, California. (See here) That was built in 1880, in a time period when quite a few California courthouses did have clocktowers. The architecture was notably different from what showed up on the Universal Studios backlot, however. 192.12.88.7 (talk) 10:34, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Hill Valley courthouse looks a bit like the Inyo County Courthouse, in Independence, CA, which was built in the 1920s. hmmm. And whose bright idea was it to put a "clock tower" in a "gable", anyway? 192.12.88.7 (talk) 10:51, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that Back to the Future Part III was filmed in Sonora, California, which (interestingly enough) has a clocktowered courthouse (the Tuolumne County Historic Courthouse) that was built in the late 1890s. 192.12.88.7 (talk) 11:05, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another show in which the court house is used.

[edit]

I noticed the court house or representation of the building in the Simpsons Episode "Principal and the Pauper". It not only looks the same but has similar surrounding fascades. At the point when Mayor Quimby is on stage making a presentation with schools superintendent.

Maybe someone could verify and ad this to the main page of shows/movies that the court house has been utilised in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.179.102.31 (talkcontribs) 14:16, January 21, 2010

I added to the list this film because it shows the Courthouse Square and the shops. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.40.134.173 (talk) 15:52, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
