Fixed trivia

The previous trivia stated that Crackdown and Gears of War were both developed by Microsoft. Gears of War was developed by Epic games and Crackdown was developed by Realtime Worlds. Both games were pubished by Microsoft but that is irrelevant as to what the developer puts in the game so instead of correcting it, I simply deleted the entire phrase.

Article needs update.

The game was released yesterday. 151.188.16.17 12:00, 21 February 2007 (UTC) I bought a preorder, which had a sticker on it for the retailer stating, "do not release until Febuary 20, 2007."

Crackdown and Crackdown (video game) articles need history merging

There are 2 almost identical crackdown articles. One which is just plain Crackdown and another that's subtitled (video game). This is possibly due to the disambiguation page. Either way, one of these needs to be deleted, or the two articles need to be merged. VerasGunn 11:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Crackdown disambiguation page

I don't think the disambig is needed, since police action refers to politics (like some people say Vietnam was a police action. The page has nothing to with Police cracking down on drugs. I say we move it back.

Controversy

Does anyone know if there is a source for this: Jack Thompson mistakenly said Microsoft was selling crack, when he heard about Crackdown. Obviously Jack Thompson did not know Crackdown was a game.[citation needed]

No, that's probably just rhetoric. Thompson isn't a smart person, but he isn't an idiot either. Master Deusoma

I agree. I doubt anyone would be that dumb, espically, conisdering the word crackdown is farliy common and its meaning is not even remotly close to that of the drug. --70.48.175.35 23:59, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Title

"Crackdown" should be where the government stops crime. That is the common usage. Skinnyweed 18:50, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I think that'd be more of a "crack down". TFX 01:41, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Features

In my opinion, the features list reads more like an advertisement, or the back of a box than an encyclopaedia article, I would change it but I don't know enough about the game. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.1.140.5 (talk) 14:30, 23 December 2006 (UTC).

I'd vote for a rewrite as well. It does indeed look more like what you'd find in an ad for the game than a normal WP-article. 85.165.162.169 02:40, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, that's some nauseating ad-speak there. -- El benito 22:39, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Fourth'd. "Legendary Game Designer"? "Incredible Over-the-Top Action"? That's too much for an article on a game that's already been released and critically acclaimed, let alone one that's coming in two months. --Kleptonis 08:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

It's copied from http://crackdownoncrime.com/ThisIsCrackdown/crackdown_overview.htm. I'd delete it immediatly without feeling the need to replace it with anything, but since there's a discussion going on...80.203.53.26 16:54, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Added the advert template, tried to add it to the features list but it overlapped the box to the right badly. Editorinchimp 20:54, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

EVERY disk of crackdown is a key to the Halo 3 multiplay beta download. This is point proven by the offical crackdown site. And if you cant trust the people who are making the game who can you trust?

http://crackdownoncrime.com/News/Halo3_Announcement.htm - The Halo announcement on the offical site.

UNLESS PEOPLE START CLEANING UP THIS ARTICLE SO IT DOESN'T READ LIKE AN ADVERTISEMENT, THEN I'M DELETING HALF THE ENTRY. THKY

Actually, no you won't THKY. Also I'll thank you to not type in all caps as it is rude, akin to yelling, and it makes you sound like a moron. CharlieFandango

Map

The article states "game starts with one portion of Pacific city open to the player.". Is this true? I'm sure I read that the whole city is open from the beginning (I'll look for the source later today) Brooza 11:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

The entire map is open but the narrator recommends not entering the other two islands until you build your skills up.

You cannot get to the other two parts of the city from the Agency tower/garage right off the bat. You can take the above ground bridges but technically you are only really supposed to be on the one section (La Mugre Island) from the very beginning and move on to the others from there after you progress on La Mugre. Raj O Mac 10:57, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Engines

As the demo is currently available on XBL, it should be noted that the engines are Havok for physics (already noted) and Renderware for engine rendering. I'm not sure what it was, but there was a logo for another engine (that's what it could be, at least) under the Havok logo and next to the Bink logo before the game started. I'll probably start up the demo and look into the company in a bit. (Nbmatt 18:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC))

Alright, cool, someone fixed it. :) (Nbmatt 03:30, 31 January 2007 (UTC))

Article title

The history of this article is a bit of a mess. This is what I can work out:

The article was created in May 2006 at the title Crackdown. On January 23, 2007 (early on the 24th in the Eastern hemisphere), the article was moved to Crackdown (game), and then twelve hours later, moved again to Crackdown (video game), a more appropriately disambiguated title. Crackdown was turned into a disambiguation page.

About a day later, WikiMan78 pasted the contents of the article back into Crackdown, replacing the dab page with a duplicate of the article. This was basically a cut-and-paste move without the "cut", because the article was still intact at Crackdown (video game).

For the next two weeks, both articles were edited, acquiring independent histories, until the copy at Crackdown (video game) - the one attached to the pre-January 23 history - was changed on February 7 into a redirect to the pasted copy at Crackdown, which is missing most of its history. Since then, all edits have been to the copy at Crackdown.

In order to patch up the history, we'll definitely need to merge the May '06 - January '07 history from Crackdown (video game) with the February 7-18 history from Crackdown. I'm not sure which version of the January 23 - February 7 history is preferable; they seem pretty parallel, with some of the same people making the same edits to both pages.

Can someone tell me whether I've basically got the story right, and make a case for what the name of the article ought to be? Once that's decided, and we pick which history to keep for the two weeks of duplication, I can merge the histories properly at whichever title is chosen. -GTBacchus(talk) 07:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I haven't been watching this page, but I think "Crackdown" should be a disambig page and the game should be at "Crackdown (video game)". TJ Spyke 08:56, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
But there is nothing to disambiguate. The only article dealing with the word Crackdown is this one. There is also a link to wiktionary.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.197.192.130 (talkcontribs)
Yes there is, I wouldn't expect you to admit that though since you caused part of this whole problem (by redirecting Crackdown (video game) to here). TJ Spyke 22:56, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
The disambiguation page previously in place at Crackdown was actually problematic, because it directed readers to police action, which really isn't the same as a "crackdown". If there's to be a dab page at Crackdown, we should decide on a more appropriate target for the common-language meaning of "crackdown". -GTBacchus(talk) 22:59, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't having the wiktionary link satisfy the common language meaning of crackdown?

About Gears

I've seen a few bits of trivia added to this page implying that various things in Crackdown are references to Gears of War, like the cogwheel imagery seen all over the place in the Den looking like the COG logo from Gears, or the movements of the Shi-Gen's mutants being similar to the way Wretches move. Well I'd just like to make this perfectly clear: Gears of War was made by Epic Games, Crackdown was made by Realtime Worlds. As far as I know, neither have anything at all to do with each other, apart from both being Xbox 360 games. Someone was looking for a reference. Master Deusoma 07:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

The Agents armor also looks similar to the Gears armor...IT'S A CONSPIRACY!

Not only the armor the agents weapons look like gears weapons. 24.195.201.60 17:41, 1 May 2007 (UTC)tridentdc2424.195.201.60 17:41, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Adding a video

http://gamevideos.com/video/id/8607. It's a roundtable discussion with a few of the editors from 1UP and EGM. It would be a good addition to the info page.

Game completion question

  • I have a question concerning the completion of the game. I have been able to bring all of my skills to a 4 star rating however i never maxed them out. I have now defeated all three gangs but since I need to kill enemies in order to increase certain skills (specifically firearms, explosives, and strength) will i be able to now that there is no one left to fight. The only other solution is to find the Hidden orbs but i don't think my skills will be completely maxed once i find them all. -- Unsigned
    • Talk pages shouldn't be used as a general forum, but the quick answer is that you can start/continue the city with 'crime on', no bosses but enemies will be there to. --Masem 03:01, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

quick question

It says o n the wiki that there is download content but I have yet to see it can anyone tell me when it is comeing out

out now there is a basic free version and a 800 ms point edition Leadguitar1211 02:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Should be added into Trivia?

When you are fighting Axton Cowell, he can be heard sometimes saying "What is your Major Malfunction?" This is obviously a reference to the movie Full Metal Jacket, and that is why I think it should be included into the trivia section.

On that note, should something be added about the constantly changing advertising, like in the Rainbow Six Vegas article. For example, I saw a click it or ticket campaign ad ingame the otherday(ironically, after I threw a car at it). Also, sign your posts please. Capgun2713 19:35, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

good article on development/bug testing for game

linky Don't have time presently to stick this in the article, leaving it here for myself or something else to add. --Masem 14:18, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Crackdownfinalbox.jpg

Image:Crackdownfinalbox.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

GAN on hold

  • "However, despite these fears," - you can rmv the however hear...
  • "and operating" - operating --> operates, I think
  • "akin to the video game, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction" - clearly it's a VG, just have the name here
  • "Crackdown was to go exceed the gameplay" - huh?
  • "bottom 30 percent" - bottom 30% of what?
  • """We kind of knew 'Crackdown' would need as much help as it could get to get into players' hands...Like we've always said: It's a game player's game. It's not something that's going to sell in screenshot. So [the Halo 3 beta] was good."" - fix quotation marks (inner ones should be a ' (not "), and put Crackdown in italics instead of quotes
  • "performs well commercially" - keep paste tense
  • "a number of players saved games" - need apostrophe on players'
  • Repeated wlinking (etc. IGN) in Critical response section

Leave a note on my talk page when done. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 01:54, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Added Billy Thomson as a designer

And was removed. I've reverted it.

He's in the credits as lead designer if you play the game

You can also seem them here on moby games

http://www.mobygames.com/game/crackdown

He's even refereed to in the main article body as designer :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.7.72.243 (talk) 13:45, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, that's fine - the name wasn't familiar (though yes, its in the article body), and the way it was added, copying the way David's name is there, made it look like common vanity edits that occur often from IPs that add their own name. No harm, save that I have removed the wikilinks since there's no article for him (yet). (Also note that new talk discussions should go at the bottom of the page.) --MASEM 14:06, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Soundtrack?

What happened to the link containing the soundtrack list in crackdown? just when i needed it.... -_-

Removed references to cel shading

This game is not cel shaded (as per Cel-shaded_animation), nor did the cited reference mention cel shading. I wonder how many other games which use vaguely non-photorealistic shading are called "cel shaded" kibibu (talk) 07:05, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Puzzling text in second paragraph

"ESRB said.'This game should not be a 15 or 16 BBFC and PEGI.'" appears in the middle of the article's second paragraph, apparently apropos of nothing (since the rest of the graf has nothing to do with the game's ESRB rating... or whatever else all those initials may indicate). I don't know enough about the subject to comment further, much less make corrective edits myself, but it's quite bemusing as it now stands and hopefully someone who does know more about it will be moved to make appropriate adjustments.

--zgryphon (talk) 21:53, 10 January 2010 (EST)

This article is surely too long for what is, after all, just a computer game and as such merits only one paragraph explaining what the game is and a photo! There are far more omportant uses for server space. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.21.81.240 (talk) 09:45, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

There are no limitations on server space, unlike a traditional paper encyclopedia. --MASEM (t) 13:23, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Extra citation

"The main theme of the game is 'Paradise Bird Theory' by DJ Krush", and "Crackdown 2 was released on July 6, 2010 in the U.S. and Canada and on July 9 throughout the rest of the world" should have citations to solidify these statements. CR4ZE (talk) 08:20, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
