REQUEST UPDATE[edit]

Has this changed under Mac OS 10.5? I can't find /System/Library/CoreServices/Crash Reporter.app but I do see something called /System/Library/CoreServices/Problem Reporter.app. This request was NOT added by me, I merely moved it from the article to the discussion, cbf to check who added it. 24.233.216.157 (talk) 22:29, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

same here on 10.6. I'll remove the incriminated line. --Lo'oris (talk) 08:58, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Smart Crash Reports?[edit]

should unsanity's smart crash reporter be added to this article in any way? http://www.unsanity.com/smartcrashreports/ PaulC/T+ 01:12, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. This article is not about crash reporters in general. Add it to crash reporter. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 07:49, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I realize that this article is specific to Apple's crash reporter. I'm mentioning the unsanity app because there has been some controversy about how it modifies Apple's crash reporter so that the reports are sent to Apple as well as the developer who wrote the application (if the app that crashes isn't Apple's). See the daring fireball link for a better idea of what I am talking about. PaulC/T+ 20:04, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a short quote: In September, Unsanity released Smart Crash Reports. Smart Crash Reports is a combination of some Mac software and a web service. The Mac software is an input manager extension, which modifies Apple’s Crash Reporter app to send reports both to Apple and to Unsanity’s web site. The web service allows other Mac developers to register their software, and to then log in to Unsanity’s web site to view the crash logs for their software. Smart Crash Reports also allows developers to have their crash reports sent directly to their own web site, rather than Unsanity’s. PaulC/T+ 20:06, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Paul that this is both closely related and definitely relevant. --Ministry of Truth 02:50, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Crash Reporter Screenshot Basic.png[edit]

Image:Crash Reporter Screenshot Basic.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

DialogType in 10.4?[edit]

I use Mac OS X 10.4.11 on a Power Mac G3 Blue & White 350 MHz, and due to an experimental state it is in right now – Mac OS X is running on a CF card that is the primary (and only) drive, using a IDE to CF adaptor on the first IDE bus – I happen to have a lot of crashes these days. I use Crash Reporter a lot, just to let Apple know that there are still people out there using 10.4 Tiger.

I made the observation, that in its default setting I see lots of debug informartion in the upper half of the Crash Reporter window, and in the lower half I am prompted to describe what I did when the crash accured.

Is it possible that the modes normal/developer/server/none as described in the article have been introduced in 10.5 Leopard?

$ defaults read com.apple.CrashReporter DialogType
2011-04-14 14:02:57.832 defaults[1281]
The domain/default pair of (com.apple.CrashReporter, DialogType) does not exist
$

Maybe this should be corrected. Greetings, ‣Andreas 18:49, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
