Status[edit]

So South Africa games (men's and women's) have been downgraded from T20I status. Not surprising and probably shouldn't have had status in the first place. Interesting to know if SA had arranged for these not to have status before the tournament or if there was a change during the event. All info and stats articles have been updated. There are rumours that Namibia and Zimbabwe men's matches might also be downgraded. Bs1jac (talk) 22:17, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Teams with random names (emerging, university) playing to add to the medal tally of their countries when other countries are actually fielding their national teams (regardless of the players playing) feels nonsensical মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 14:12, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have an issue with that. It's still a team of South Africans so its fine for the medal table; but its not THE South Africa cricket team. I do wish it was announced before the tournament that it was "officially unofficial". Bs1jac (talk) 17:00, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can agree with that last part. I wonder why ICC even considered changing this big a thing midway through a tournament. মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 07:42, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mashfi23 The ICC hace told cricbuzz and cricket archive that Zimbabwe's games were not T20I status and should be recorded as Zimbabwe Emerging. Once cricinfo confirms and updates, I will have to go through player stats list pages for 5 teams, list of grounds and the records page, and someone will need to edit various player profiles.
