Cite to the governmental report discussed omitted
[edit]Since this article discusses a governmental report which is available online, citation of the report seems essential. It is http://www.census.gov/cps/ . Yet it has been omitted. I tried to insert it as note one, but failed. Hope someone else has more skills / better luck. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.101.69.44 (talk • contribs)
Dr. Burkhauser's comment on this article
[edit]Dr. Burkhauser has reviewed this Wikipedia page, and provided us with the following comments to improve its quality:
ASEC is the primary source used to measure income and income inequality as well as poverty. It is also used to measure the economic well being by demographic characteristics. This section should be expanded, The reader should be pointed to
https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2014/demo/p60-249.pdf
but this comes out every year.
The first part is mostly talking about the monthly survey and is accurate but should be updated.
It is possible to get access to the internal CPS data that allows you to get more detailed information for individuals above the top codes. See:
Burkhauser, Richard V., Shuaizhang Feng, Stephen Jenkinsand Jeff Larrimore. “Recent Trends in Top Income Shares in the USA: Reconciling Estimates from March CPS and IRS Tax Return Data.” Review of Economics and Statistics, 94 (2) (May): 371-388.
for an example of the use of the internal CPS to match trends in income inequality found using tax record data.
We hope Wikipedians on this talk page can take advantage of these comments and improve the quality of the article accordingly.
