Captions may need work

[edit]

The captions of this article may need serious improvement before they are up to Wikipedia's standard. Before my edits, they were copied word-for-word from the corresponding image's name. I have changed that, but they still feel too separate from the article, in that they describe what's in the image, not how it relates to the main text, and I think I can't do it well enough myself. If anyone reading this has more experience with writing captions, I suggest you try to improve them further. 90.139.88.55 (talk) 09:00, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am new to Wikipedia editing but I have some suggestions for improving this article. To begin, I would like to change the opening paragraph that is describing dance education: Dance education is a practice whereby students are taught a broad understanding of dance as a form of art who are trained professionally in many different genres of dance. Dance education consists of specialized dancers who conduct original research for teaching others how to dance.

Next, I would like to change a few words around in the curriculum section: In general, a dance education curriculum is designed to impart the knowledge and skills of performing dance to the students.

There were some forms of dance that were not mentioned in the curriculum last paragraph, so I’d like to add ballet, ballroom, contemporary, jazz, Latin, tap dance, pointe, hip hop, and jazz funk.

The third paragraph under professional dance education is incorrect for most dance classes. Although many dance schools follow the school calendar, it was mentioned that the dance season typically lasts about 10 weeks in Fall and 10 weeks in Spring. I would like to remove, “Classes will start in the fall (just after the school year begins), and end about a month or two before the school year finishes. Their dance season will be around 10 weeks in Fall, and 10 in Spring.[7]” That is incorrect. Majority of dance studios start the new season at the beginning of August and last until the beginning of June. This makes a typical dance season about 40 weeks long.

Under the self-teaching section I would like to add that although one is able to self teach dance moves, it is not recommended due to the fact that executing the skills incorrectly can cause injury. It is very vital that when learning dance, dancers need to also learn good form because if one doesn’t, it will prevent the dancer from progressing. [1]

Primary education: I would like to change and add some sentences into that section such as: Due to primary school children being naturally active, the dance curriculum strives to build upon this. Younger kids have a harder time remembering dance routines so it is important that they focus more on listening to the beats of the music and practicing beginner moves to the rhythm of the music.

In the last paragraph under standards and assessments, I would like to add that dance evaluation is based on the dancer’s presence, movement, rhythm, timing, posture, and how well the skills were executed. [2]

Under the memory section, I want to add that, according to a study conducted by Harvard Medical School, dance improves brain health by being a very great stress reliever as well as producing serotonin. This helps with long-term memory and spatial recognition.[3]
