Conflict of interest

[edit]

At least one major contributor to this article appears to have a close personal or professional connection to the topic, and thus to have a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request. Requests that are unduly long, or are not supported by independent reliable sources, are unlikely to be accepted.

Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:56, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No, the syntax is correct. He's a historian, full stop (that's a permanent or very long-term state). He is a professor etc (that is a state which may change at any time). To combine them under one verb would be a kind of zeugma. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:00, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To Wikipedia:

Hello. My name is Dr. David K. Dunaway, and my Wikipedia page has generated some correspondence with the Editors and Administrators in the past few months. I’m writing this letter to confirm what happened on my end, as well as to ask what we can do to ensure my page is written accurately as per Wikipedia guidelines.

Many years ago, someone unbeknownst to me created a Wikipedia page for me. My page had the general idea right, but I asked one of my assistants to correct several errors on it, as well as add a section documenting my radio projects. More recently, a banner appeared on my page indicating we had to add references to my page, which another of my assistants did. However, these corrections were immediately removed from my page, leaving it “bare bones.”

I understand these corrections and additions were removed because my assistants, who have professional relationships with me, implemented them. However, my concern is how to proceed from here. I would like my Wikipedia page to reflect my work accurately, but I’m unsure of who is now qualified to edit my page. Specifically, I would like to have the section on my radio projects added back in — but how and by whom? My assistants and I are willing to comply with any and all of Wikipedia’s guidelines to generate as neutral and accurate a page as possible, with full primary and secondary documentation.

Thank you,

David K. Dunaway

Writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is an example of conflict of interest editing and is strongly discouraged. Editing a biography about yourself is acceptable only if you are removing unambiguous vandalism or clear-cut and serious violations of our biography of living persons policy.

If you have been published elsewhere on a topic, we welcome your expertise on the subject for Wikipedia articles. However, every Wikipedia article must cover its subject in a neutral, fair, and comprehensive way to advance knowledge of the subject as a whole.[1] The correct process to having information added to an article is use edit requests to propose changes to the article. Those may be made here on the talk page using the format of "change x to y using z" shown below.

Change x to y using z
x A verbatim description of the old text to be removed from the article (if any)
y A verbatim description of the new text to be added to the article (if any)
z A reference which verifies the requested change
Example edit request:

Please change:

  • The Sun's diameter is 25 miles.
 ↑This is x↑

to read as:

  • The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles.
 ↑This is y↑

using as a reference:

  • Harinath, Paramjit (2018). The Sun. Academic Press. p. 1.
 ↑This is z↑

Using this format, a third party editor will be able to review the changes to ensure that they meet the content requirements of WP:WEIGHT, WP:NPOV and WP:V. Please feel free to begin this process by adding a {{request edit}} template along with your suggestions here on the talk page. Regards,  Spintendo  19:42, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes

[edit]

Information to be added or removed: Radio section following the present "Books" section
Explanation of issue: In addition to publishing multiple books, David King Dunaway has also produced award-winning radio documentary series, which he would like added to his Wikipedia page. Particularly, one of these radio series is on folksinger Pete Seeger, and with Seeger's centenary in two days, Dunaway would like this radio series to be mentioned(not announced, publicized, or marketed in anyway, just mentioned).
