IDSCS

[edit]

I'm not familiar with NASA designations but it appears 7 IDSCS satellites were launched on 16 June 1966 under the program name Initial Defense Communications Satellite Program (IDCSP). There were 8 total satellites on the first launch but 1 was not IDSCS. The failed launch did nothing. 8 IDSCS for the "new" second launch, 4 IDSCS for the 3rd launch, and 8 for the last launch. Source is the NSSDC Master Catalog. Luis F. Gonzalez 21:59, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the initial launch date of the DSCS III satellites was 1982 [1] IDSCS seems to be a slightly misremembered IDSCP (DSCS-1) [2]--Shporang (talk) 07:48, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Phase I thru Phase IV

[edit]

I think it would be great if a greater overview of the DSCS program was presented, in particular more detail about DSCS I and III, as well as mentioning the planned(?) upgrade for the Earth side reserves (Phase IV). I already did a little research and dug up a small number of links, but lack the time to update Wikipedia...DSCS I, DSCS II, DSCS III, DSCS IV, and Factsheet: DSCS. Another link I found has quite sparse information about the DSCS program: The Satellite Encyclopedia--Shporang (talk) 00:28, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New rating and IDSCS

[edit]

I did a little cleanup, added a picture of IDSCS, and uprated this article to "C" (it might even merit a B, but it's a little thin for such a broad topic).

I also created Initial Defense Communications Satellite Program, which is now GA. At some point, someone might do the same for the other two series and then apply that information retroactively here.

In any event, it's impressive that an article essentially created by committee is in such decent shape. :) --Neopeius (talk) 14:09, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
