The Mony Hall Puzzle, a.k.a, the Marylyn Vos Savant Puzzle
[edit]Consider the following figure:
- 0|1 1' 1/6
- 0|1'1 1/6
- 1|0 1' 1/3
- 1|1'0 1/3
where 0 is a miss and 1 is a hit; 0 or 1 before the bar represents the state of the door originally selected by the contestant; the 0's and 1s after the bar represent the state of the doors not selected; the prime represents the door opened by Monty Hall; and the 1/6 and 1/3 represent the probability of each possibility.
As you can see, the probability of a hit given the contestant keeps his original door is 2/3, and the probability of a hit if the contestant surrenders the original door and selects the new one is 1/3.Pullen16 (talk) 00:11, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
