Untitled
[edit]The essential problem with this page is that it seems to have been created by disciples of a minor religious leader, who is not in himself particularly notable. DaveP689 (talk) 10:59, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'd agree entirely. I've been working on the article on Sangharakshita, who is a notable figure in Western Buddhism. Subhuti may be an important figure in the FWBO, but not to the wider world. Two or three paragraphs should be sufficient. Tathaataa (talk) 03:02, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- He is significant enough to have an article, per the discussion following the request for deletion.Sylvain1972 (talk) 20:52, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Controversies
[edit]The page does also not share any of the controversies, for instance selling same sex as a means to enlightenment by using it als a tool for "spiritual friendship". Subhuti proclaims same sex as needed for the spiritual path and heterosexual sex as an obstacle:
- ”It seems that, within the context of the spiritual community at least (I am told that ‘gay’ circles are fraught with jealousies!), sexual interest on the part of a male order member for a male mitra can create a connection which may allow kalyana mitrata to develop. Some, of course, are predisposed to this attraction, others have deliberately chosen to change their sexual preferences in order to use sex as a medium of kalyana mitrata – and to stay clear of the dangers of male-female relationships without giving up sex. Many people do not feel able to do this – whether as a result of taboo or reluctance to give up a conditioned predisposition.” – http://www.ex-cult.org/fwbo/SubQuote.htm

Biographical info
[edit]It would be interesting to know more about his non-Buddhist background. I take it he is English? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.99.193.146 (talk) 17:11, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
