Plastic surgery

[edit]

The article describes her as an advocate against plastic surgery, yet she clearly had a nosejob between the Godfather and Annie Hall... shouldn't that contradiction at least be mentioned in passing, if her views on plastic surgery must be mentioned at all? Omgplz (talk) 10:11, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know this reply is a year later but I don't think you can add to the article that she has had plastic surgery unless you have proof she has had it because of libel issues.--BeckiGreen (talk) 01:57, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace, school

[edit]

I just updated the "early life" section of the Diane Keaton article. It had listed her birthplace incorrectly as Santa Ana, Ca. But in a public radio interview, Diane Keaton said "I was born in Highland Park..." which is a suburb of Los Angeles. You can hear her say it by listening to the real audio archive of the show here:

http://www.publicradio.org/tools/media/player/kpcc/news/shows/airtalk/2007/11/20071107_airtalk2?start=00:25:22&end=00:52:31

Also, I personally asked her, yes - in person, where she was born, and she told me the exact hospital in Los Angeles. She told me where she went to elementary school, but I assume these details are too obscure to include in this article. So please don't change the birthplace back to Santa Ana.

Where did Diane Keaton go to high school?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.81.26.44 (talkcontribs)

Diane Hall, as she was known at the time, graduated from Santa Ana High School and attended Santa Ana College.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.200.116.5 (talkcontribs)

Her stage name is derived from her Mother's maiden name-Keaton.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.200.116.5 (talkcontribs)

Kind of tangential, but Fitzgerald didn't write The Great Gatsby in Los Angeles. As the book's article states, he wrote it in Great Neck, New York. As far as I can tell, he never even LIVED in Los Angeles. I've changed the article to reflect this. I also tidied some grammar here and there, but this article's looking really good! The Disco King 23:41, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can find one reference to him having written it there [1], but since it's the only one they might be in error.--Fallout boy 21:25, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Then it must have been FL where he wrote for the "Hollywood" film industry? LOL And had a viewing of his body following a heart attack? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.88.72 (talk) 01:50, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Actress?

[edit]

Why this lady wears the same cothes in every movie? Is it at all possible to call her an actress instead of an actor? Mad Jack O'Lantern 06:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An actor is a person who acts, regardless of gender. An actress is implicitly female. I prefer using actor mainly because it's considered more grammatically correct. [2] But it is a minor detail, and if someone wants to change it to actress I won't put up a fight over it.--Fallout boy 16:34, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you wouldn't call her a steward, as opposed to a stewardess, on a plane? Mad Jack O'Lantern 20:57, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you get my point. :) Mad Jack O'Lantern 21:33, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Keeping on touch with the actor thing. The opening of the article reads, "Diane is an American producer, director, and actor. I think it would make more sense if it was, "actor, director, producer" seeing as how she is more well known as an actor(actress). I'm gonna change it.

An actor isn't someone who acts; an actor is a man/male/boy who acts. It really should be actress, using the proper gender from. Calling her an actor would imply a penectomy of sorts. 81.208.161.198 12:12, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't Keaton direct an episode of Twin Peaks in the early 90's?

Yes, she did. That is mentioned in the last paragraph of the 1980s section.--Fallout boy 18:21, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Atheist and Methodist?

[edit]

I understand she was raised a Methodist, but if she's an atheist now, shouldn't she be removed from the category? Bhumiya (said/done) 00:26, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I guess that makes sense. Mad Jack O'Lantern 01:11, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just read this article and if she said in 2002 she "currently believes in God", she's not really an agnostic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malifact (talkcontribs) 09:05, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just as when some one is baptized into a religion they can never be unbaptized although some people get excommunicated but they will always have been baptized or a former follower of a religion. It's just like you are or you aren't pregnant. Once you are you have been even though it may be terminated, prematurely birthed, die in childbirth or adopted out. Is she still spiritual? That is another question to be determined. And just because someone says that they do not believe in god does not mean that they no longer believe in spirit; the statement very well may have been an incomplete statement that could not be captured by the 15 second news segment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.88.72 (talk) 02:00, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In this article she states clearly that she is agnostic: https://archive.vanityfair.com/article/1987/3/inside-diane-keaton Quote: "I'm an agnostic," she says, "but I understand the longing and the need for more, for something better, fuller. For love."

Commendation

[edit]

This is, in my opinion, an interesting and well written article about an actor. That just about straightened up my impression of wikipedia's featured article selection! It was a big disappointment for me when wikipedia's front page one day not long ago featured the not quite so well-written Katie Holmes article. I'm sure some of you remember that goof. Great article, fully deserving of its FA status. Diane Keaton is one of my favorite actresses and it heartens me that there is an article in WP worthy of her. Great job! RashBold Talk 19:42, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Children?

[edit]

Why aren't there any mention of her kids? I think she has adopted at least two, one of them named Duke.

Personal life

[edit]
What about her relationship with Al Pacino. Wasn't that a pretty significant part of her life. Does anybody know any of the details of there relationship? annoynmous 06:13, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was. Will edit it in :) Yankee.doodle.666 22:10, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In reference to Keaton's relationship with Woody Allen, the article states that 'by the time they made films together their romantic involvement had ended'. But then in the next paragraph, discussing Annie Hall, Allen is described as her 'paramour at the time' of the making of that film. Which is the case?

Oh ya what was that about rumours of a r/s btwn Jack Nicholson and her? Plus, they keep appearing together at events. Might be worth a mention?Mineowyn (talk) 05:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kabbalah?

[edit]

Can I ask why this article is included in the Kabbalah project, when I can find no mention of it at all in the main article? Has mention of it been removed? --Defenestrating (talk) 00:45, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably because: https://www.hellomagazine.com/music/2003/05/26/madonna/ , https://culteducation.com/group/1008-kabbalah-centre/11794-truth-about-the-madonna-cult-.html , https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/11985305.a-spiritual-quest-for-the-material-girl-madonna-is-making-a-documentary-explaining-her-adherence-to-kabbalah-mysticism-but-what-is-the-reality-of-these-beliefs-by-abigail-wild/ , https://www.thejc.com/life-and-culture/all/god-has-led-me-to-famous-people-1.490158 , and etc. This stuff isn't as trendy as it was 20 years ago, so I guess that that's why it was removed. Fair use rationale for Image:A432somethings gotta give.jpg

Image:A432somethings gotta give.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. TV roles

[edit]

For anyone wanting to expand the section on her early work... I was surprised recently to see her in the first segment of episode 2 of the first season of 'The Night Gallery'. . .towards the end of 1970.

I didn't know when her career began so I checked here. I guess this TV work was about the time she was attracting notice from movie makers, so she wasn't an unknown at the time. Gloryroad (talk) 21:58, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How many stage and Broadway actors are eminently known in that industry and yet are virtually unknown elsewhere? That stage productions do not get television coverage until some television or cinema actor appears for a six month limited appearance? That very well is what the visual arts entertainment is when it comes to known or unknown. If she was making guest appearances in television it most probably during that time period in Los Angeles where at the same time was a significant amount of cinema production. So who knows her and what counts as a career she can bank upon are two different things. Is she to be discounted by making commercials between films when other aspirants wait tables? She being born in the Los Angeles area discounts her desire to succeed in the business is discounted versus that of someone from elsewhere? These are issues that really do not serve a constructive purpose except to denigrate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.88.72 (talk) 02:11, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Other activities

[edit]

In the 'Other activities' section it says "Since 2006 Keaton has been the new face of L'Oreal." The use of the term 'new face' sounds like marketing terminology to me. The fact is that she is a paid endorser. I might have phrased it that she became a 'spokesperson' for L'oreal. Using the term 'new face' sounds like an attempt at glamorizing her commercial appearances.

Review of "The Good Mother"

[edit]

The claim that the review of "The Good Mother" (1988) panned her performance in incorrect. In fact, the review lauded her performance in glowing terms. The quote cited in the entry did come from the Post review, but was taken out of context; the reviewer was saying how Keaton's performance was so good, ("outclasses the material"), that it exposed "phoniness in the writing", leading her acting "...to degenerate into hype...". Indeed, it is a lengthy review and seems to point to Keaton's performance as the main reason to see the movie, ending with the statement, "Even shackled to banalities, Keaton has the power to amaze." Review: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/longterm/movies/videos/thegoodmother.htm — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.236.90 (talk) 23:55, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some issues

[edit]
  • Many paragraphs end without citations.
  • There are some unreliable sources used (IMDB and WordPress to start)
  • Some sections are stubby, making the article choppy.

Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 02:17, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for pointing out the short comings but let's make a deal. Every time that you come upon this article or a similarly constructed article provide a citation to get things to where one expects of the proper quality. At least there is something here for people to review to get a preliminary understanding of something or someone. It could be total fabrication but then any information source is left to you to verify. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.88.72 (talk) 02:18, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Missing information

[edit]

Under Career, 1970: "Although by the time they made films together, their romantic involvement had ended,..."

Nothing prior to that point in the article even suggests that she had a "romantic involvement" -- with anyone, much less Allen. Therefore the statement that said involvement had "ended", seems to come out of nowhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.43.249 (talk) 01:01, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Directing career.

[edit]

Is a short separate section needed to expand on the movies and TV shows (especially "Twin Peaks") she has directed? I'd like more info about her role as a director, how she started, why she stopped, how she got involved in some of them, etc. These projects could grouped in one place rather than just mentions sprinkled during career. Also, should these projects she directed be added to existing or as separate entry to her filmography? I think definitely, even if there's no section added to main article, but there's nothing there. Didn't edit article to include these things, just putting suggestions here. -- HistoricalAccountings (talk) 21:08, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Woody Allen films

[edit]

"The films that shaped her career the most were those with director, co-star, and former romantic partner Woody Allen, beginning with the film adaptation of Play It Again, Sam (1972). Her next two films with Allen, Sleeper (1973) and Love and Death (1975), established her as a comic actor, while her fourth, romantic comedy Annie Hall (1977), won her the Academy Award for Best Actress."

As noted in the filmography, she was also in an earlier Allen short, "Men of Crisis, The Harvey Wallinger Story (1971)". Drsruli (talk) 23:16, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
