At least as far back as the 80s
[edit]Donald and Beverly Seamans were well known in Marblehead, MA circles for their Fourth of July parties at their harborfront house, and the centerpiece was always the dishwasher salmon. Beverly wrapped the fish (whole!) in cheesecloth, not tin foil, and vermouth was often added to the soap dispenser. The fish would be put on the top rack and put through a cycle or two. She would then finish it with dill sauce and cucumber slices with a pimento olive slice for the eye.

Safety
[edit]Please, for the love of god, never remove the warning in the lede not to try this. DenverCoder9 (talk) 03:44, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- salmon can be eaten raw 2001:56B:FFE6:85F:0:20:8C45:8F01 (talk) 20:16, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
- Yes salmon is often eaten raw, but it does have risks associated with it [1]. If you want your fish cooked, you should do so with a proper cooking method rather than this. Juan el Demografo (talk) 21:12, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Add protection against vandalisers
[edit]Hello, I request the page to be protected so that autoconfirmed and confirmed users or higher can edit. UkroballIsGreat (talk) 11:57, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- I just went ahead and made a request at WP:RPPI. I got it protected a long time ago, but it was short term and clearly didn't help much. Hopefully this one will last a good while, until either it all blows over or clearly needs indefinite. Juan el Demografo (talk) 00:15, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- I meant permanently. UkroballIsGreat (talk) 03:32, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- The level of vandalism isn't high enough to justify that right now, but if the vandalism resumes, it would probably be worth submitting a new WP:RPPI. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 03:37, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- Anon users has spiked in July, make it permanent. UkroballIsGreat (talk) 23:14, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

1950s Origins
[edit]I saw a TV cookery programme that said Dishwasher Salmon was originally invented in 1950s in Ohio, USA, and that in Montana and Alaska they made a variant called Dishwasher Trout.
They said Dishwasher Salmon was "en vogue" in the 1970s but declined in popularity since, and was usually served in northern US states (such as Ohio and Montana) with Ranch dressing or with butter and herbs, and in southern states (they mentioned Texas and Florida) with hot pepper sauce. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.184.97.154 (talk) 20:15, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment. I've been unable to find any reliable sources predating the ones already in the article, but if you're able to find something, please do post it here. I would not be surprised if a producer on the TV cooking show did some internet searches and got "creative" filling in the blanks. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 23:59, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Tom Scott's video and quote
[edit]I see that the Tom Scott quote is cited through a seemingly random tabloid-esque news site. I feel that it would make more sense to cite the video directly, but this seems to be such an edge case I couldn't find any resources on it. As an aside, yes this account is incredibly new, this is genuinely the first time I felt I could contribute anything to Wikipedia. Astralaquaria (talk) 02:40, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
