Cover versions

[edit]

DavidWBrooks: I thought the link to WP:SONGCOVER explains it: "Only cover versions/renditions important enough to have gained attention in their own right should be added to song articles ... a particular artist's rendition should be included in the song's article (never in a separate article), but only if at least one of the following applies:

  • the rendition is discussed by a reliable source on the subject of the song,
  • the rendition itself meets the notability requirement at WP:NSONGS."

I'm not sure how to improve on this: from the article, all the reader knows is that several artists have recorded the song and which album it appears on. There are no references or text that should indicate that a critic or music writer sees the rendition as important or noteworthy. Some standards have been recorded by dozens or even hundreds of artists; encyclopedic articles should not attempt to list them all (there are websites devoted strictly to cover songs, such as secondhandsongs.com). Does this help or could you improve the SONGCOVER wording? —Ojorojo (talk) 18:41, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DavidWBrooks Never mind, I removed the section. —Ojorojo (talk) 23:02, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
