A suggested expansion

[edit]

Perhaps this article could be expanded to cover the current function(s) of the room and any major historical events which are tied to the history of this room.Nrswanson (talk) 17:04, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Function of the room, especially for performing arts, is described in pretty good detail. The image is dark and does not highlight the room. The main White House article and the many room articles have had lengthy dialogue about the inclusion of people, living and dead, in the White House article pages. Where good pictures without people are not available it has been agreed to include them. Over time most all of the rooms now have a range of photographs without people.
You are right many historic events have happened in the White House, almost all of these events, like the signing of the Partial Test Ban Treaty or the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 have their own articles with photographs of the White House interiors.
There are in the category of White House articles, several articles on events at the White House, like the State Arrival Ceremony where the subject of the article is about official life at the White House it is important to have people in the pictures. Would you consider an article White House performing arts or White House entertainment? It might also make sense to begin a new category of White House performing artists. Best, Jim CApitol3 (talk)
Excellent suggestions. Although I am not even sure where to begin tackeling those topics.Nrswanson (talk) 17:47, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding images of individuals

[edit]

Over the last 3 years images featuring individuals have been added to the White House room articles. The room articles are primarily about the architecture and decorative arts of these rooms. While some text describing historic events that have happened in a particular room are important, if the event is significant enough to have its own article (Partial Test Ban Treaty) the photograph is more appropriately placed there with a link in the article to the White House room article.

There are an abundant number of photographs showing the rooms without people, where the focus is on the architecture and decorative arts. The emphasis in adding a photograph is to illustrate the room and its furnishings, not an individual. If you must add images of people, please add them in the gallery feature. CApitol3 (talk)

Dimensions please

[edit]

Please add the dimensions of the room to the article, if you know them. Luwilt (talk) 18:15, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

East Room events

[edit]

The East Room is used a bazillion times for receptions, meetings, and so on. Most of these are neither notable nor encyclopedic. Treaty signings, landmark legislation signings, and the like are notable and encyclopedic. A contributor added a reception for young people in the East Room in 2018, with a citation. Citation or not, that doesn't make the event notable as it doesn't rise to level of treaties and landmark legislation. - Tim1965 (talk) 15:05, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

7.4 square feet per person Covid19 Trump reception

[edit]

On 2020 election eve, Trump host 400 person reception in East Room that allows a 7.4 sq. foot space per person. This occurs during peak of Covid19. Propose inclusion as one of the most shameful utilization of this historic space. Wikipietime (talk) 14:45, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
