Thanks for starting this article about Eddie Freeman[edit]

Hi,

Jerry Lobdill here.

Tom, Freeman used to tell me he was band leader at the Savoy in WW II. He told a story about riding a bike along a road when German planes flew over and frightened him into leaping off the road into a ditch.

He also told a story about playing in speakeasies in the States. As I recall, his group was setting up in a dive and doing a sound check when they were accosted by a man who exuded authority. The man asked them to play a particular piece. Later Eddie found out that the man was Legs Diamond.

My six years of studying flamenco guitar with Eddie in Dallas were seminal for me. He was a mentor in many ways. It was a blessing to have known him, his wife, Maureen, son Jerry, and daughter Anne.
