Location of station
[edit]The photo, description and geolocation of the station states it is the Willoughby Arms, which is in Little Bytham, just a short distance from the station and only partially along the line, which stretches for a further 4 miles. Edenham station may well still be in existence but would be the house next to Copy Farm, on Main Street Edenham (52.786589776753054, -0.4316923429494113), and not where it has been reported. Some clarification please. AsparagusTips (talk) 17:42, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- @AsparagusTips: Why do you want coordinates to sixteen places of decimals? That is a precision of about 10 picometres, which is smaller than an atom. Please see WP:OPCOORD and suggest more reasonable coords. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:44, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- It is simply a copy and paste of the coords from google maps, which from the link you provided I now see is not allowable. There is no intricate accuracy required except for the 4.1 miles I am suggesting it is currently inaccurate to. I believe the building's entrance from the road is at what3words ///peach.fevered.alternate and the building occupies square ///arts.handbags.blog - I do not understand how to get the coords you explicitly desire but openstreetmap provides Main Street, Copy Lawn Farm, Edenham, South Kesteven, Lincolnshire, England, PE10 0LL, United Kingdom as the location. I hope this assists you AsparagusTips (talk) 19:09, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
- Using the National Library of Scotland archive, and the oldest map that they hold, shows that (to five places of decimals, or about one metre of precision) the north-eastern end of the station was at 52.78637°N 0.43164°W and the south-western end was at 52.78569°N 0.43233°W. The average of these is 52.78603°N -0.431985°W, or, rounded to four places of decimals (about 11 metres), 52.7860°N 0.4320°W. The article presently has 52.7862°N 0.4320°W so the north-south is only about 22 metres out, the east-west is spot on. 22 metres is about the same length as a railway carriage - I think that's good enough for our purposes. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:21, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for this. The Photo shown is of Little Bytham station/ terminus building of the Edenham & Little Bytham Railway, which was at the previous co-ordinates which I pointed out were incorrect (the Little Bytham railway station article refers to the Willoughby Arms as the ELBR railway terminus versus the station for Little Bytham). I do not know of a photo of Edenham station and am therefore unable to provide one, but including it into the Edenham article would be incorrect information. I don't want to edit it without providing this information, and it would need moving to the ELBR article. I hope this makes sense. AsparagusTips (talk) 14:54, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- Apologies as new to wiki so may not be following correct protocol. The photo is not the station at Edenham so is misleading. The building in the photo is a pub in Little Bytham at the other end of the line so this cannot possibly be the station at Edenham. Architecturally, it is also more elaborate than the GNR station building opposite so highly unlikely to be the terminus of a 4 mile long light railway. 86.161.129.23 (talk) 23:17, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
