[edit]Hello, my name is Danny and I'm an employee for the Edenton Steamers. I realize the potential for a conflict of interest with having made a major edit to the Edenton Steamers wikipedia page. I would like everyone to know who is involved with wikipedia contributing that everything I updated is verifiable on the the two links at the bottom of the page. Namely, www.edentonsteamers.com and www.coastalplain.com which is our league website. I in no way changed, enchanced or promoted the team or the league beyond reasonably explaining the history of the Edenton Steamers. The reason we decided to edit our own page was because the prior information was outdated, some was false and the 2010 season update, which we didn't write, was very unclear and poorly written. The management of the Edenton Steamers decided that if we were to have a wikipedia page (which they were very happy they did have one once they realized) we would like the information to be accurate and up to date. I hope this dis-pells any thoughts of violating the wikipedia guidelines in anyway. Feel free to read over the changes and cross check them with the websites I have listed earlier and e-mail me with any questions. Thanks and I look forward to becoming a member of the wikipedia universe! SteamersCPL (talk) 19:59, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have done some work on the article, mainly to try and bring it up to standards of the Manual of Style (WP:MOS). Some external links were deleted and I'm afraid some information was lost in conversion to a true infobox. That doesn't mean you can't rescue it and put it in a table, for example.
- In the future I would suggest two major things: clean up the language and structure of the 'History' section, and pare down the "Alumni" section into the most notable members only. An exhaustive list can be split into a new article, for example List of former Edenton Steamers members. Elizium23 (talk) 01:34, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Your edit was problematic for two reasons. It removed maintenance tags at the top of the article. You are not qualified to remove them, especially the {{COI}} tag. Once you have cleaned up the article then you can see about removing the {{cleanup}} tag. Secondly, you removed the standard infobox. WikiProject Baseball will want to standardize infoboxes on all team articles. This is a minor league team so it uses the minor league baseball infobox. If you want more information displayed, then you have two options: 1. add a table to the article. While prose is preferred for most information, a table might be suitable for statistics, but it belongs in the body of the article. 2. modify the {{MiLB infobox}} template to take more parameters, such as the ones you would like to display. This makes it more useful for all articles, not just this one. Elizium23 (talk) 17:13, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, sorry I am not much of a baseball person. I noticed that this is not a minor league team but a collegiate team. There is no template specified for collegiate teams. You may be able to use the one I placed, but it seems to have display problems. You may want to ask on WT:WikiProject Baseball for help. You could also try WT:WikiProject College baseball for a more specific project and possibly more people to help. Elizium23 (talk) 17:23, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
It was unintentional to remove the clean-up tag at the top, I didn't realize it removed those when I put the code in for the original info box. The info box that I had put back up there was the info box that was originally on the site when it was created, which I didn't do. If there is no standard info box for collegiate teams then why can't I put the info box I had up back on the page? Before I edited the page a few days ago some of the information was inaccurate and the writing was awful, how come nobody marked it as needing clean-up then? But now that it's more up to date and the information is accurate it's marked for clean-up. Perhaps I don't understand the standards completely but that seems backward. - I found the correct infobox this time. Sorry, facilities for searching templates are not great. I had to refer to another college baseball article to find it. The reason that it was not tagged before is probably because nobody cared enough about it. It is also possible that the bad writing accumulated slowly over time, and the few editors that were working on it did not think to tag it after such work was done. It was created as a stub with very little information. It would not have been tagged for cleanup at that time, by new page patrollers. The reason I tagged it for cleanup now is because the "History" section is one long paragraph, with technical jargon and few wikilinks to other articles. Please read the manual of style and it will instruct you how to create a presentable article. I know it is long, but it covers every eventuality. You may want to read some Featured Articles to see examples of good style. Herschel Greer Stadium is a Featured Article in the College Baseball category. You can find other Featured Articles by going to WP:FA and finding a topic. Elizium23 (talk) 19:40, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
