Untitled

[edit]

it cycles about 500,000 gallons (1,900,000 liters) of water a year and directly serves about two million people

500,000 gallons per day is a crop in the bucket for 2 million people. Is this number correct? What is the source for this stat? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 165.91.123.58 (talkcontribs) .

Probably meant acre-feet; slightly different. Will source and fix in a sec. Kuru talk 00:37, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Yes, as written, a quarter of a gallon of water per person per year would have been a bit low. Kuru talk 00:44, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trinity?

[edit]

You'll notice that the map I added is for the "Edwards-Trinity aquifer system". That's how the data is presented in the source given on image description page. Someone in a position to know might want to expand on that a little in the article. The extent shown is more than the article discusses, and appears to be based on a common geology of the formation(s) responsible for the aquifer system. This article as it stands today is mighty light on geologic details, but an aquifer is a geologic phenomenon before it is a hydrologic one. I.e., the pipes have to be there before they can carry any water. --Kbh3rdtalk 07:16, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

San Antonio's dependence on the Edwards Aquifer

[edit]

FTA:

One of the major cities on the aquifer is San Antonio, America's 7th largest city, with a population of over 1 million. San Antonio is fully dependent on the Edwards Aquifer for their municipal, industrial and daily use.

According to http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2015/may/18/sharlene-leurig/water-expert-says-austin-only-city-arid-western-us/ "the [San Antonio Water System] taps seven water sources, topped by the underground Edwards Aquifer, which provided 77 percent of the water in 2014." 77% is a lot but it hardly constitutes being "fully dependent" TerraFrost (talk) 01:52, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
