Shitennou

[edit]

I couldn't think of a good place to add this without interrupting the flow of the article, but I thought it might be worth mentioning the significance of their name. The Japanese name is Shitennou (Four Kings of the Heaven's is I think the most literal translation). Each one was associated with his own animal, color, and season, and stands as the guardians to the "God of the Center." That's why each member in the game cleave to a specific type of Pokemon, and stand as the final test before one can face the Pokemon League Champion. It's just one of those cultural things that gets lost in translation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Onikage725 (talkcontribs)

I'm not sure this is the right place to mention the parallels with other games, but there's a lot of groups-of-fantastic-beasts-of-myth symbolism in Pokémon. (Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza, too, parallel Behemoth/Leviathan/Ziz in Jewish mythology, and a lot of the legendary Pokémon are even more overt than that.) I'm not sure how much you can really say about that without degenerating into original research, though. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 18:11, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I took out the mention of comparisons to other fiction. You're right, that was a tangent on my part. However I do feel the main subject is relevent. You're right about Pokemon in general having alot of mythical roots, but that would be a matter for the main Pokemon article. The origin of the Elite Four's namesake would be appropriate here.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.163.100.196 (talkcontribs)

would someone please block Davesonishville from editing stuff? That idiot has just been messing things up.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Squareenix (talkcontribs)

Mythology

[edit]

Perhaps you could direct me to wherever this "Mythology of Pokemon" is? Because it isn't on the main Pokemon page. If it isn't anywhere, I think that, if the topic is extensive enough, someone should make a page for it. Opinions?Leprechaun Gamer 03:08, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fascae?

[edit]

This doesn't sound notable or important. I don't think this should be on this page or any other, but I don't know if I should get rid of it.--76.23.84.86 20:12, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
