"Anti-Trans Journalism" is polarizing and misrepresents the article in question
[edit]The article itself is an investigative journalist's examination of the mother of a minor who is a patient at a single healthcare clinic. The article does not represent all patients, all parents, all clinics, all treatment. It presents a single mother's claims and correlates them to a whistleblower's account of the treatment at the clinic.
While the article presents a critical perspective of the treatment provided at the transgender center, it is based on the personal experience of one individual and is not a generalized attack on the transgender community as a whole.
The article itself takes no position on transgender people, transgender rights, or even transgender healthcare in general.
Hence, it is unfair and misrepresents the article to title it as "Anti-Trans Journalism" 107.3.134.213 (talk) 22:32, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- I changed the title to "Youth Gender Medicine", since that appears to be the topic of both items in the section. The demonstrable controversy is not that Yoffe "is anti-trans" but rather that she has interviewed or reported on claims of poor medical care that were subsequently disputed. 68.33.164.31 (talk) 01:09, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
I have since been accused of an unconstructive edit and vandalism in changing the section title of this article.
I have responded with the following:
there is now, and I ask you to apologize for
+ not giving me a reasonable amount of time to add that into the discussion (it was probably less than five minutes since I made the edit)
+ describing my edits as unconstructive and vandalism
+ reply to the discussion in the talk section as to why you believe the original headline was better and was not unfair and was not polarizing
+ reply to the discussin in the talk section as to why this section is even a notable part of this journalists career
+ revert any change you made to the article
In fact, the discussion here was placed within four minutes of my changing of the title from "Anti-Trans Journalism" to "Investigative Journalism regarding the University of Washingon, St. Louis, Transgender Clinic"

I am new to Wiki, I certainly do not know all the rules, but I think it is gross to accuse people of vandalism when courtesy and grace and a civil discussion can take place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.3.134.213 (talk) 22:37, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- Usually, when someone says that there is "more info in the talk page", they mean that a discussion has already taken place, not that it will be added in the near future. Having taken a look at the sources, it's not unambigously clear that it is "anti-trans journalism", so I agree that a better term should be found. However, I would suggest something along the lines of "Journalism on Transgender Issues", since the article cites more than one instance of the journalist apparently taking a somewhat biased position (or at least facing backlash or controversy for their position, which relates back to the section heading). It is a notable part of this journalist's career as it has been reported on by multiple secondary sources. I'd be happy to have the section title changed in accordance with that.
- For the future, remember that edits that come seemingly out of nowhere, significantly change the meaning of a section title, and are made with a misleading or unclear edit summary will likely be identified as unconstructive. I appreciate your good intentions, and I'm sorry that I misinterpreted them. Nonetheless, I would recommend you engage in discussion before making such edits, not afterwards. - thanks I appreciate your response, someone has changed it to "gender affirming care" and I think that's a much more neutral title, (though I still think it takes an n of 1 and generalizes it....) 107.3.134.213 (talk) 06:00, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- It is widely agreed upon by trans advocates that articles attacking gender-affirming care for youth are anti-trans journalism, and Emily Yoffe herself is demonstrably anti-trans on social media. On her personal twitter, she has retweeted articles from many transphobic writers, and she has expressed significant admiration for J.K. Rowling who, if you weren't aware, has been spreading lies about transgender people for many years. Claiming that Emily Yoffe does not have anti-trans political motivations in writing her articles is ridiculous, but I really do not want this to end up in arbitration because I spend most of my time on here writing fashion articles and doing page cleanup and arbitration over queer politics is exhausting. I added the information about the transgender center because I saw it on social media and thought it seemed notable, not to split hairs over what is and isn't transphobic. Computer-ergonomics (talk) 20:47, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- Have to say it's pretty weird though that a random IP address that had never edited anything else really wanted to make sure that Emily Yoffe was not presented as in alignment with Republicans in Missouri, and also chose to frame the investigations by the transgender center of the whistleblower and the investigations of the clinic by the known transphobic government in that state as equal. Makes you think. Computer-ergonomics (talk) 20:56, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
