Notability

Which criteria of notability from WP:MUSIC does this band meet? Wikibofh 15:30, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

I quote the Notability page, "Important note: This is a criterion for speedy deletion. The fact that an article does not meet guidelines on this page does not necessarily mean it qualifies for speedy deletion, as a mere claim of notability (even if contested) may avoid deletion under A7.

Many of us who spend a lot of time improving Wikipedia's musical coverage feel that notability is required for a musical topic (such as a band) to deserve an article here. Please note that the failure to meet any of these criteria does not mean an article must be deleted; likewise, the meeting of any of these criteria does not mean that an article must be kept. These are merely rules of thumb which some editors choose to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to keep an article that is on articles for deletion.

Also, please keep in mind that the article in question must actually document that the criterion is true. It is not enough to make vague claims in the article or rant about a band's importance on a talk page or AfD page -- the article itself must document notability."

Why is everyone obsessed with deleting pages just because they haven't heard of them? This is getting silly now. Enter Shikari are a prominant band of the local scene, being in magazines and such(though whenever someone says a band have been in a publication or in the media, someone says that doesn't mean they're eligable for a page, so the Notability Music page is used when somebody wants the page deleted, but then the ideas for are disputed when used in favour of the band, you really can't win, can you?) --Duffers 11:16. 3 April 2006 (GMT)

Criteria

This meets the criteria. They're a released artist, they've performed at large concerts, and I see people listening to them all the time. If this was deleted, it'd be the second time today that I've came on here looking for info, only to have to get it via the deletion log. Not all that helpful. :p Esteffect 00:55, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

They are one of the best bands ever!

I believe the criteria states that a band is notable if it is signed to a major label. ES is not, however, I think the fact that they've turned down several offers from major labels in order to continue producing their own music should be enough to satisfy the notability. Nickvsshark 19:16, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Actually if you read the relevant page, WP:MUSIC, you'll see that being signed to a major label is not the primary criteria, and is only part of one of the additional criteria (i.e. releasing two or more albums on a major label). Nevertheless, there seems to be sufficient media coverage of the band to satisfy the notability guidelines. --David Edgar 11:20, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

They have the #4 album in the UK chart, that's enough reason to be here imo Cloudz679 23:01, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for reverts

There seems to be some problems with the revert. I'm very sorry, I meant to revert to User:David Edgar version. sorry againg by Snowolf (talk) on 16:20, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Trance?!!

bit perplexed by how that has any relevance to this band --80.41.119.242 01:50, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

altered the trance references to eurodance as the music has far more in common with Hi-NRG and Euro-Techno genres. If this is disputed please do it here with relevant sources/citations --Neon white 00:47, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Post-hardcore? christ.

More precise genres?

We have the basic idea that they are metal and electronic. But seeing as we've had quite a few edits lately, (trance, eurodance, new rave...) as well as some doubt in post-hardcore or metalcore, we should come to a decision before this becomes another My Chemical Romance... -Ally 21:14, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

How about a "Disputed Genre" section? or perhaps a genre vote. Ambrosia- 06:20, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Hasn't the idea of genres outlived itself in the 21st century? The idea of members of a band sitting together, discussing if they're "post-industrial hardcore", "euro-dance speed thrash metal" or anything else with a similar funny name sounds ridiculous to me... 84.57.78.157 09:51, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, Wikipedia doesn't seem to think so ;] -Ally 12:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
'New Rave' isnt really a genre at all. It's a buzz word used by a very narrow group of people. It's little more than a media construct and not widely accepted. In fact it is commonly ridiculed and angrily rejected. --Neon white 01:05, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Someone appears to have deleted "Screamo" as a genre - surely it should stay as the band and the label actually describe themselves as screamo..? --86.14.237.0 19:45, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Read the screamo page. Ambrosia- 23:32, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
also read the Trance music page. They are clearly not a trance group in any form. As it says in the first line they are a 'post-hardcore band with heavy use of electronic sounds'. Though i would dispute the term heavy as the electronic sounds aren't that profound or integral for most of the time. I don't think there is any indication that they are widely accepted as part of any dance genre. Though eurodance is the best description for what the electronic part is closest too. 'Eurodance is a colloquial term for a type of European synthesizer-driven dance music which became popular worldwide in the early- to mid-1990s.' --Neon white 14:31, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
If "Desecration of art forms" was a genre, they would go there. However, they are certainly not Eurodance, Post-hardcore or otherwise. They are Screamo/"Nu Rave". 62.31.88.36 15:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
This has already been discussed, they are not screamo or nu-rave as neither are widely considered to be genres. Post-hardcore was the consensus largely due to the lack of sources. --Neon white 22:40, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Band Members articles

Instead of having minuscule pages for each of them, why not do what the Arctic Monkeys page has done and have 1 page for all the members? -Ally 12:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

  • created. but when i posted up, it just redirected to the band page. :S Nocarsgo 02:48, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Rous Voice trouble

My brother read in the sun the other day[hardly the most accurate source, but meh] that Rou is having real trouble with his traoth ,and they have had to cancel a few upcoming gigs.At the last Dublin show, last monday week, i also heard Rou complaining about his voice being fu*ked up.Is there any truth to this?if true[the cancelled concerts, maybe it deserves a place in the article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Playwert (talkcontribs) 19:28, 12 April 2007 (UTC).

Yeah it's true.. take a look at the blog on the Enter Shikari site. 86.14.237.0 21:57, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

What the hell? This is FAR from trancecore. Even click the trancecore wiki, the description doesn't describe Enter Shikari at all. Some idiot even put ES on the trancecore page under notable artists... trancecore is supposed to be around 200 BPM, the idiots who list ES as trancecore don't even know what BPM stands for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.142.219.222 (talk) 01:50, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism of this article

This section is repeated in the article with different wording, first in the biography then in beginnings and take to the skies would someone like to choose which one it should stay in. i couldn't decide.

Biography: (Their first physical single was a double A-side of re-recorded versions of "Sorry You're Not A Winner" and "OK Time for Plan B", released on October 30, 2006 which was limited to 1000 copies of each format, sold out within the first week of release)

Begginings and Take to the Skies: (Their first physical single featured re-recorded versions of "Sorry You're Not a Winner/OK Time for Plan B", which had previously been featured on one of the demo EPs. It was released on October 30, 2006. It was limited to 1000 copies of each format and sold out within the first week of release.)

Could someone offer their opinion please —Preceding unsigned comment added by ICheets (talkcontribs) 23:56, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Don't aujjyildd myspace to external links

See page WP:EL. Links normally to be avoided No. 11 'Links to social networking sites (such as MySpace)' --Neon white 00:24, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, but it also says "Except for a link to a page that is the subject of the article or an official page of the article subject". ~Ambrosia- <cheese

sup>talk 02:11, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Do we know it's 'official'? The reason they are generally best avoided is because they are often fan sites with many inaccuracies and poor material, to add to that i dont think it really adds anything that isnt in the article. --Neon white 23:22, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
http://www.entershikari.com/links.php o_O ~Ambrosia- talk 01:46, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
I think we can assume it's official seen as it's almost identical to the official site. --Neon white 02:04, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Members pages

Redirected the band members pages here, none are that notable as individuals and the pages didn't contain much info (what little there was seemed to be OR) that couldn't be contained here. Discuss if you disagree. --Neon white 18:12, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

New Rave

I looked at the article for New Rave and found Enter Shikari fit the bill, so I found two sources to back it up that they are, but I appear to have messed it up (the links lead to Wiki pages) Can someone sort them out for me please? Much appreciated Titan50 (talk) 20:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

the issue with it is that new rave isn't really defined as a genre of music, it's really known only as a media construct, it describes many seperate genres and styles, so it can't really go in the infobox. --neonwhite user page talk 22:18, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Klaxons are labelled under New Rave on Wiki Titan50 (talk) 19:04, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
They probably shouldnt be. --neonwhite user page talk 00:29, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Don't songs like Sorry You're Not A Winner and Enter Shikari fit the genre metalcore? Thanks for reading, ThundermasterTRUC 16:21, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Not really? The only thing "metalcore" I see about those songs are the screaming, which can easily be classified under post-hardcore. ~Ambrosia- talk 18:32, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I think they are essentially the same thing. Far too many neologisms for the same type of music. --neonwhite user page talk 18:43, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Metalcore? Not sure about that... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.206.44.18 (talk) 11:32, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

The was recovered according to an interview with Kerrang magzine in which Rou himself stated "The laptop had been found but the person who had it asked to remain anonymous."{{Fact|date=December 2006}}

Ambush Reality

I just did a quick search of the barcode on Take to the skies on http://directory.gs1.org/client/gtin/ and it says the company that owns that code is play it again sam

so ambush reality is just another vanity lable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.171.129.77 (talk) 00:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Enter Shikari being a British band, like Fightstar... any relation to the animé Neon Genesis Evangelion? Rjsec4ever (talk) 16:45, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Oscar Nomination?

I don't think so - I removed this. --American Vanquish (talk) 21:50, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

another Tribalism?

A recent change says that their *next* album (in 2011) will be called Tribalism. This seems an unlikely title, given their previous compilation of the same name. Any references? --David Edgar (talk) 09:02, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

For the time being I merged the two sentences into one paragraph and removed the reference to the title. --David Edgar (talk) 19:41, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

The Devil Wears Prada

Didn't Prada support ES on one of their European tours a few years ago? I'm pretty sure they did. Shouldn't that get a mention on the page? 71.197.172.107 (talk) 13:00, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

I remember them playing warped a few times together, but I don't recall TDWP ever supporting them with ES as the headlining band. bonkifai (talk) 18:18, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Here's a video of Prada at the London Roundhouse with Enter Shikari http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEiYbEaP7Ew. The description claims they were a supporting band, and Mike says "thanks to Enter Shikari for having us out here on the tour". 76.28.141.159 (talk) 21:35, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Nintendocore? maybe Trancecore?

I remember seeing a few places that the band called themselves a "Trancecore" band, does this apply? I was considering adding this to the genres list but, well, I have no sources to confirm my statement.

Genre

Seen this on this talk page a few times. The Wikipedia page for Electronicore (also known as Trancecore) lists Enter Shikari as an Electronicore band, citing two sources that are now, inconveniently, broken links. But still, we should have another discussion about this. Reason being that last time genre was discussed here, it was in 2007, and if you check the page for Electronicore and read the Reception section, it says that a primary kickstarter of the genre was the I See Stars album, 3-D, which was only released in 2009.

The links for Enter Shikari might be dead, but the point still kind of stands that they were named as an Electronicore band, and even the "King of Trancecore" on those dead links. If we can find any other sources, we should add it to the genre list.
