Why ask Why?
[edit]Why is there a "why?" in superscript as to Ernie Lively's taking his spouse's surname? It's a common enough practice and needs no explanation. Are you going to go to the article on Susan Sarandon and put a "why" for the reason she took the name of HER spouse when SHE got married (to Chris Sarandon)?69.86.65.186 (talk) 10:00, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Christopher L. For a man to take his wife's surname is quite rare. (And Matriname does not clarify it for me). AFAIK, it only happens in Scandinavia when the man has a very common surname.
Furthermore, both their children were born "Brown". So the "Brown" family name did not disappear when Ernie married Elaine. So I also would like to see a clarification.
We should however be careful to follow WP:BLP. -- Nic Roets (talk) 22:51, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
