GoToGate and Etraveli Group
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello editors! My name is Sayna, I am an employee of Etraveli Group which (as this article states) is the parent company of GoToGate. Etraveli Group does not have its own Wikipedia page but it seems that much of the information about it has been placed in this article instead. As a result, this article is not very well focused.
I have two proposals to make and I would love editors' input on next steps. I would like to suggest that this article be moved to Etraveli Group, rather than have two articles floating around, with GoToGate getting a section in the moved article. Additionally, I have a draft of the content for what an Etraveli Group article could look like. I have a draft in my user space.
What's the best way to proceed first: propose an update to this existing article based on my draft, or formally seek a move? Thank you for the assistance, Sayna At Etraveli (talk) 09:01, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Sayna At Etraveli, I think it makes sense to do two things here:
- 1. Submit a move request to change the name
- 2. Submit a new Edit Request afterwards that incorporates your new draft content
- Let me know if you need any help. Feel free to tag me. --FeldBum (talk) 23:27, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done I'm marking this as done, as the page was moved. — BerryForPerpetuity (talk) 12:59, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
Requested move 2 October 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

GoToGate → Etraveli Group – GoToGate is a part of Etraveli Group and this article has been used to house information about Etraveli Group, to the point that this article now has two info boxes. Per the suggestion from FeldBum, I would like to make this move request and later propose a draft to re-shift the focus to Etraveli Group, which has more and better information about it in reliable sourcing, including in Reuters, Financial Times and Bloomberg. Sayna At Etraveli (talk) 09:01, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Support as this article is primarily about the Etraveli Group and not just GoToGate. -- FeldBum (talk) 13:07, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
Refocusing this article
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
Hello editors! I am glad to see the move request was implemented. As previously mentioned, I have a draft in my user space I would like editors to consider. This draft shifts the focus onto the parent company Etraveli Group without removing well sourced information about GoToGate. It additionally fills in some gaps in information. Please let me know what editors think (FeldBum perhaps this interests you as well?) Thanks! Sayna At Etraveli (talk) 08:07, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll take a look. It might be easier to make line-by-line requests, but let me check your draft first. --FeldBum (talk) 13:47, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- There's some good stuff here, but you also remove some things on the page that would need to stay and there are lines that would not be considered NPOV. I think line-by-line requests would be the best approach here @Sayna At Etraveli. I'm happy to answer the request when you post it (and feel free to tag me). --FeldBum (talk) 14:28, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- FeldBum Thanks for the review and suggestion, I will go that route! Feel free to close out this request, I am going to post a new one. Sayna At Etraveli (talk) 07:04, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Reorganizing Gotogate information
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello editors! Per the helpful advice from FeldBum, I am going to make a few edit requests line-by-line for those without a conflict of interest to review. For anyone who would like to see the whole draft, it is in my user space. For this first request, I would like to suggest moving the Gotogate information into its own subsection within a "Subsidiaries" section. This would include the following:
- Remove a sentence in the current History section: GoToGate is listed by Etraveli as the brand which gave the Scandinavian holding company international marketshare. The site is described as especially successful in the United Kingdom and France, and in 2015, Etraveli Group expanded GoToGate to Singapore, Australia, Japan, and 12 other new markets. Etraveli Group lists GoToGate as its most successful brand and foresees it remaining the most successful subsidiary of Etraveli Group.
- Question: Shouldn't I just move this to the new GoToGate section and change the lede?
- Make a Subsidiaries section with a "GoToGate" subsection (I have more proposals later for what else could be in this section)
- In that subsection add: Gotogate is an online travel agency and seller of air travel based in Uppsala, Sweden,[a] and one of the most prominent trade names of the Swedish travel corporation Etraveli Group AB.[1][2][3] Gotogate claims it serves 30 million customers a year across 77 countries and fills 140 Boeing 737 planes every day.[4] Gotogate was used for a time as the flight provider for Booking.com for various European countries.[5]

The agency has a Better Business Bureau grade of "F" and hovers around a 1-star rating with reviewers frequently calling the website a scam.[8][9]

- FeldBum Thanks! To answer your question, yes that content should be moved. I just worded it this way to make it very clear what needed to be gone so there wasn't any duplication. And I agree, your second subsection works great. I will go ahead and post the next request soon, I'll be working my way through that draft you reviewed. Would you like to be tagged in the next post too? Thanks! Sayna At Etraveli (talk) 07:25, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yep, feeel free to tag me in the next one too. --FeldBum (talk) 13:19, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

History section
[edit]Hi FeldBum!
I would like to make my next proposal for this article, this time focusing on the History section. I have the proposal for new content for this section in full below, and here is a short summary of what the changes are:
Replace the following:
- "Sources conflict on when both GoToGate and Etraveli Group were founded. One report suggests that Etraveli Group was founded in 2000 while another source says Etraveli was founded in 2007 from the merger of Seat24 (Sweden) and SRG Online (Svenska Resegruppen)
With:
- Etraveli Group was founded in 2000 and it offers flight services including searches, booking and fulfillment.[1][2]
Because: I wanted to propose a source to definitively say when Etraveli was founded.
- Question: Couple quick questions here: What about the sources that say 2007? What about the merger between Seat24 and SRG? How do those factor in?
Add the following, "It is based in Sweden and its largest market is in Europe.[1] Etraveli Group operates in more than 50 markets, including the Nordics, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.[3] According to the Financial Times, Etraveli Group has a leading position in the Nordic region.[4]
- Partly done I can do some of this, but "leading" is too fuzzy to include unless you have specific data.
Add the following, "Also in 2017, Etraveli Group entered a partnership with Booking.com after the latter launched a flight business.[1] Two years later, Etraveli Group acquired Canadian companies TripStack and Flightnetwork. TripStack, an air technology specialist whose technology would be integrated with Etraveli Group, and Flightnetwork, an online travel agency.[3]"
Add the following, "That day, Booking said it would appeal the veto.[5]"
Here is the proposal in full to show placement:

Etraveli Group was founded in 2000 and it offers flight services including searches, booking and fulfillment.[1][6] It is based in Sweden and its largest market is in Europe.[1] Etraveli Group operates in more than 50 markets, including the Nordics, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.[3] According to the Financial Times, Etraveli Group has a leading position in the Nordic region.[4] In 2015, Etraveli Group was acquired by ProSiebenSat.1 Media and placed under its investment subsidiary 7Travel for €235 million. Later in 2017, Etraveli Group was sold to CVC Capital Partners for $570 million USD, or €508 million.[7] Later on the same year the group merged with Greek online travel agency e-Travel S.A.[8][3] Also in 2017, Etraveli Group entered a partnership with Booking.com after the latter launched a flight business.[1] Two years later, Etraveli Group acquired Canadian companies TripStack and Flightnetwork. TripStack, an air technology specialist whose technology would be integrated with Etraveli Group, and Flightnetwork, an online travel agency.[3] In 2021, Etraveli Group was acquired again by Booking Holdings, two weeks after it bought hotel distributor Getaroom, for €1.63 billion.[9] The Government of the United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority has launched an enquiry into the acquisition, and as of November 2022, Booking Holdings is continuing to defend its proposed acquisition.[10][11] The deal is also under investigation by the European Union, which had been assessing the move since October and under a more extensive investigation by the European Commissioner for Competition since November.[12] Despite concessions offered by Booking Holdings in October, on 25 September 2023, the European Commission announced that it has rejected the transaction.[13][14] That day, Booking said it would appeal the veto.[5] References
