Flit was a DDT based product. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.96.18.77 (talk) 19:36, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
May I suggest a reference to the Marx Brother's Animal Crackers, in which a flit sprayer filled with knockout drops features prominently in the plot? (That's the only place I had ever heard it - Chico says "flitz" - until I read the Dr. Seuss article in Wikipedia.) TaigaBridge 18:32, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Note too, in most prints of this movie, the flit name on the gun is scratched out, for some reason. Copyright problems? They don’t mind using, and riffing, on the name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C7:E284:CF00:D81E:8737:F106:7A4C (talk) 15:27, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- 'FLITZ' means "run like greased lightning" in german. FLIT the insectspray was also available in germany in the 1930s. PLEASE SOMEONE ELABORATE on the original formulation ("mineral oil based") .. my mum says it was very effective against bed-bugs.. a common problem in bed-bug-ridden USA {1}. You can still buy it today in Germany, but probably permethrin (invented in 1973) based.85.197.21.17 (talk) 14:26, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

1955 Flit shortages and the U-2
[edit]interesting fact: "...vice president of the Shell Oil Company ... arranged for Shell to develop a special low-volatility, low-vapor-pressure kerosene fuel for the craft [Editor: the U-2]. The result was a dense mixture, known as LF-1 A, J P-TS (thermally stable), or JP-7, with a boiling point of 300"F at sea level. Manufacturing this special fuel required petroleum byproducts that Shell normally used to make its " Flit" fly and bug spray. In order to produce several hundred thousand gallons of LF-1 A for the U-2 project in the spring and summer of 1955, Shell had to limit the production of Flit, causing a nationwide shortage" http://www.gwu.edu/sites/www.gwu.edu/files/downloads/U2%20%20history%20complete.pdf, The U-2 and OXCART Programs, 1954-197 4, page 62 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.64.0.252 (talk) 16:35, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Dario Leone, July, 18 2021 JP-7, the fuel that powered the SR-71 Blackbird caused a nationwide shortage of bug spray. Here’s why. https://theaviationgeekclub.com/jp-7-the-fuel-that-powered-the-sr-71-blackbird-caused-a-nationwide-shortage-of-bug-spray-heres-why/ Shell Oil and SR-71. 72.238.86.168 (talk) 17:45, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
This section contain an error. The fuel that caused a shortage was JP7, and the JP7 was used by the SR-71 not the U-2. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.53.247.165 (talk) 23:02, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
