Suggested cleanup

Encyclopedic tone

I would like to suggest that, other then in the intro (to establish that Jackson is the rapper known as Fabolous) we should probably change mentions to his real name (such as "Jackson"). The source cited (ESPN) states that Telfair is (not "is rumored to be") under investigation and states nothing about his cell phone records. If new information has come to light that he is not or may not be under investigation, and/or that he provided the records, please ensure that a source is cited before adding the information. Failed GA nomination

I hate to say it, as there are not enough high-quality hip hop articles on Wikipedia, but I must fail this article as a Good Article candidate. This could turn into an excellent article, and the groundwork for that has already been lain. However, there are a few issues in reference to What is a Good Article?:

• Criteria 1(c): The article has slight WP:MOS problems, such as album titles not being italicized. This could be easily fixed, and is in no way the defining reason for GA failure.
• 2(b): The page contains one {{citation needed}} tag and one spot which uses external "jumps" as opposed to inline citations. Again, this can be solved, and is not the main factor.
• 3(a): This is the big one. A GA does not have to be as comprehensive as a Featured Article, but the Fabolous article is not even close to comprehensive. Aside from where he grew up, there is no talk of his childhood whatsoever. The "Biography" section immediately jumps from where he lived to with whom he has collaborated. We're given only the barest of minimums in regards to details of Fabolous's life. There is also no description of his style- how does he rap? what do his songs sound like? does he use a lot of samples? do his concerts include live instruments? His albums go without description; the page simply lists an album's name, release date, and chart position, but no background information at all. In my opinion, no article lacking so much info could be a GA.

Much of this article is quite good: The references are generally reliable and well-cited, the article is laid out well, it's completely NPOV and free of original research, and the table of albums is perfect (though I may or may not include his mixtapes in the table). Fair use image removal

I don't believe that "fair use images" should have been removed-the fact that they are used in album articles are not a reason that they may not be used here, and they were covered by fair-use rationales. Might the person who removed them state h(is|er) specific objections to the rationale here? Seraphimblade 23:47, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I believe they are redundant here (since they are in the respective album articles), and it's Wikipedia policy (wich is deliberately more strict than US law seeing as we are a free content project) to use unfree material as sparingly as possible. The fair use rationales in question (witch should be on the image page itself by the way, not the talk pages) does not in fact offer any kind of rationale for why the images are needed or contribute significantly to this article, and personaly I find album covers in discographies to be little more than eye candy unless there is some actual commentary on the covers themselves. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Music's "quality standards" also says cover images should not be used in discography lists. --Sherool (talk) 00:07, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

I see one minor mention of that in a subpage of WikiProject music, none whatsoever on the main. It's only policy (which Wikiprojects don't make or override, whatever they may get to thinking sometimes!) that fair use images should be used only where an appropriate rationale can be provided, and where an appropriate free image could not serve the same purpose. I don't believe any free use image could illustrate the CD listing nearly so adequately as the CD cover itself, and it is certainly covered by an appropriate rationale. That one subpage is the standard of quality that project have developed, I asume they did not just come up with that out of thin air. I'm not saying any free licensed image could replace an album cover I'm saying using the album covers does not add anyting significant to this article. They do not identify the subject of the article (though they do on theyr respective articles), and they are not used to ilustrate any relevant points in the text. In other words I think they serve a purely decorative purpose, wich is not reason enough to include them per the Wikipedia:Fair use criteria (see point #8). Saying that an image is of low resolution and unlikely to harm the copyright holder may be enough to satisfy the legal requiements of fair use (though I believe there are 4 factors that must be adressed), but as mentioned Wikipedia place a number of restrictions on the inclution of fair use material beyond the purey legal ones. We are supposed to be a primarily free-licensed ensyclopedia, invoking "fair use" only when there is no other way to add significant value to an article. --Sherool (talk) 12:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Name vs. nickname

When writing about a person, we should use that person's real name ("Jackson"), not a stage name or nickname. On the other hand, when referring to him as a musician, it may be appropriate to use the band/stage name. (For example, "Jackson grew up in...", but "The Fabolous album..."). Right. I agree with what you're saying, at least in parts! When referring to him as a musician Fabolous' first popular single, "Can't Deny It", was released in late summer 2001 it just fits better. I can't word it any clearer. He has has released the record as Fab, not Mr Jackson! In other parts In his early ages, Jackson grew up in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. and Consequently, Jackson was arrested (along with three other men) after being treated, it could be argued his real name is more suitable. Although you can appreciate I didn't change these parts earlier.

The industry tends to make individuals be somethign they are not. Fabolous is not dominican. It is a public relations ploy to gain a hispanic following. He is african american.
