etymology

[edit]

Is the name somehow related to Felsenmeer? It means sea of rocks. I couldn't find any sources for this hunch. See here. https://www.britannica.com/science/felsenmeer GreaterPonce665 (TALK) 01:57, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fellsmere is named for the founder E. Nelson Fell, but the "mere" part is closely related to your thought: "But Fell is only part of the name and only part of the community’s genesis. “Mere,” as a noun, is a poetic old word for a watery place."[1] The area is very swampy and contains the headwaters of the St. John's River. 97.102.30.205 (talk) 22:43, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please add this to the article? Thanks. Kiran_891 (TALK) 20:16, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
