Extra Info?
[edit]I went to a performance with this piece a couple of days ago, and they said the lively mood of the piece was notable because it was written between Stalin's death and the invasion of Hungary by Khrushchev, during a period of optimism and hope for the Union. Is this notable enough for the article, and is there a citation for it? Swampfox1942 (talk) 22:14, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
http://www.sfsymphony.org/music/ProgramNotes.aspx?id=54130 according to San Francisco Symphony program notes the first conductor was :Alexander Melik-Pashayev, Wikipedia say someting else., what is the truth ? He composed his Festive Overture during the first week of November 1954, and it was premiered a few days later, on November 6, with Alexander Melik-Pashayev conducting the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.111.49.101 (talk) 18:32, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
A celebration of the death of Stalin?
[edit]There's no citation for such a claim which, true or not, seems to be very opinionated. 67.172.164.26 (talk) 17:04, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Festive Overture (Shostakovich) → Festive Overture – Per WP:COMMONNAME. 112.204.203.83 (talk) 03:53, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Support per WP:CONCISE. This is a simple reversal of a redirect that has pointed to this article since 2007. Station1 (talk) 04:54, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nominator. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 04:59, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:COMMONNAME is nothing to do with removing disambiguation; multiple compositions called Festive Overture, only this one is by Shostakovich. When the title is not broken, stable and helpful why ambiguate? In ictu oculi (talk) 06:54, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- No need for ambiguous title as per WP:CONCISE, unlike other works including 1812 Overture, The Rite of Spring, and of course, Peter and the Wolf. 112.204.203.83 (talk) 09:57, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Those titles don't have other meanings. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:15, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Support. Excessive disambiguation. I'm not aware of any other topics named "Festive Overture". 162 etc. (talk) 15:54, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination, Station1, CurryTime7-24 and 162 etc. The fact that Festive Overture does indeed redirect to Festive Overture (Shostakovich), instead of the opposite, confirms that the parenthetical qualifier is not needed. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 08:21, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
