Updated Story Count

[edit]

I'm an anonymous Wikipedia user and a longtime Ficleteer. There was a statistic in this article citing over 30,000 ficlet stories published as of May 2008. I updated this number to 48,000 stories as of today, January 2, 2009. The old number referenced a blog post on the Ficlets site. There is no source for the new number, apart from the URL of the most recent story (all stories are numbered in their URLs). I know the number is accurate but removed the attribution since it's no longer relevant. I hope this is appropriate for Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.121.5.213 (talk) 17:12, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Articles should always have a citation source for statements of fact (see WP:CITE). I'll leave the new figure in place for now, but only because I assume Kevin Lawver will release a final ficlet count when the site is taken down. hornoir (talk) 18:56, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm about to alter the number again because a friend pointed out to me that he's 90% certain that creating a draft and never publishing it still increases the ficlet running count in the URL by one. While this obviously might not be the case, I'm altering it to reflect caution and certainty rather the possibly erroneous content. hornoir (talk) 02:22, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless, I found a reliable quote that supports your initial figure. hornoir (talk) 03:11, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An update, if you don't mind... Ficly.com is officially up and running. Maybe the page should be updated? Ficly could be linked to ficlets, too. I'd add it myself except I don't know the markup. -Eloquent Mess —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.10.141.222 (talk) 06:32, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

Ficlets is dead. The domain now redirects to a (nicely done) clone made by people who liked it. The AOL project is over. It's stone dead. It is definetely deceased. It has passed on, it is no more. It has ceased to be, it has expired and gone to meet its maker. It's a stiff, befereft of life, it rests in peace. It has shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleeding choir invisible. This is an ex-website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.26.2.38 (talk) 20:03, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
