Merge?
[edit]There are merge tags on fire lookout and fire lookout tower so I am adding this discussion area. My personal opinion on merging: IIRC, the two were originally one article but were split into two because fire lookout refers to the job, fire lookout tower refers to the structure. I don't have a strong opinion either way - probably oppose merge by default and to give the user who worked hard on these fire lookout articles the benefit of the doubt. That is to say I don't see any compelling reason to merge the two. I'm open to being convinced. Dragomiloff 01:41, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Merge proposal with fire lookout tower has been up for a few months with nobody supporting, so I am going to close the discussion and remove the merge tags. Dragomiloff 01:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Fire lookouts (Fire Watchers) in WWII
[edit]This article overlooks - except in the American experience - the role of fire lookout networks in WWII as an air raid precaution, the only Briton mentioned on the list of Notable fire watchers being Margaret Thatcher (when yet to enter politics). The British Civil Defence system included Fire Watchers (UK parlance) and similar systems must have been developed in Germany and Japan which (like Britain far more than the US) experienced heavier air raids.Cloptonson (talk) 05:38, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
