Petter's reason for leaving English Electric

I haven’t seen good documentary evidence that supports the following statement in the article "Petter was unable to pursue this vision [for a light fighter] at English Electric, so he left to become managing director of Folland Aircraft."

All the books I have seen suggest that Petter left English Electric because of conflict with the manufacturing branch of the company (Arthur Sheffield) and the managing director's refusal to give him (Petter) more control over the manufacture of experimental prototypes. If anyone has any references that suggest otherwise I would be interested. It is my suspicion that Petter only became interested in light fighters after joining Folland. Also note that he left EE in February 1950 and only joined Folland in September 1950 suggesting (but not proving) that he didn’t have a job to go to when he resigned.

For the moment - as I'm still looking - I can't comment on the reasons but Flight says he joined Folland as "deputy managing director". GraemeLeggett (talk) 18:40, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
found a piece on a lecture he gave "Art and the Aircraft Designer" which hints at his attitude but nothing concrete. GraemeLeggett (talk) 19:08, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think that when he first joined Folland he worked on the Red Dean missile. He then dropped the Red Dean in November 1951, to work on the Midge. I'm still looking for a good reference that supports this. Which suggests that the concept of the Midge/Gnat light fighter was conceived in 1950/1951- so he might have been mulling over the concept for a while, even though "Art and the Aircraft Designer " was from 1955 KreyszigB (talk) 21:22, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
