Side note, the USGS page, http://planetarynames.wr.usgs.gov/append7.html credits Jewitt and Sheppard, and refers to Margaret as having the 2003 image designation: S/2003 U 3. Not sure why they did that. --Sturmde 16:44, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Now that I'm back from lunch and in my office, I'm able to review my IAUC's and answer my own "not sure" remark above. Whomever changed the S/2001 U 3 article was in major error. Those of you who I know follow minor planets and satellites will have time to repair this all, but it needs serious repair. I'd suggest a careful review of Sheppard's page before undertaking it. http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/~sheppard/satellites/urasatdata.html Also, the USGS page mentioned previously will confirm my pointing out this article is seriously incorrect. --Sturmde 16:54, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Galls me enough that I'm going ahead to fix it, please if anyone can help clean up the links side: the astronomy's my expertise, not the Wiki side. --Sturmde 17:18, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Storing the incorrect article as it was when I moved it below:

This article is incorrect. S/2001 U 3 was not named Margaret. It remains unnamed. Margaret is the new name for S/2003 U 3, a different satellite.

Margaret (mar'-grit)is a natural satellite of Uranus. It is also known as Uranus XXIII. It was discovered by Matthew J. Holman, et al. and Brett J. Gladman, et al. in 2003 from pictures taken in 2001.

It is named after the servant of Hero in William Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing [1]. It was formerly known by the provisional designation S/2001 U 3.

pronunciation

[edit]

On the satellites page the pronunciation was given with the stress on the first syllable. I assume it's really /fran-SIS-koe/, as commonly pronounced, and have 'corrected' accordingly. If the stress really is on the first syllable, could someone give a reference? kwami 03:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My original pronounciation was just a placeholder. thanks for correcting it. Volcanopele 18:01, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
