Community Consulting

[edit]

An editor has twice tried adding a "community consulting" section to the article.[1][2] The two versions are not identical.diff

There were no citations in the "community consulting" section. So it has been deleted. The content of Wikipedia articles are meant to be "determined by previously published information rather than editors' beliefs, opinions, experiences, or previously unpublished ideas or information. Even if you are sure something is true, it must have been previously published in a reliable source before you can add it." (Wikipedia:Verifiability)

The section looked like it had been copied and pasted from a resumé; if so, it may be a copyright violation.-- Toddy1 (talk) 18:07, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I find Wikipedia's process for discussion of deletions, etc. confusing. I have "replied" to you but not in connection with the comment above and so I don't know if you received the comment I made to C.Fred's deletion of this text, which I only discovered last night after a month and a half since he never had the courtesy of advising me, the author of the page, of his deletion. You at least did advise me of this problem of Wikipedia protocols, which I understand and respect, but don't see why a citation of Franklyn Harvey's many contributions to the development of communities across the Caribbean and Asia has to be formally published, digitized and/or linked. @Bthomson I normally let single edits like that slide. In future, I will make a more concerted effort to warn editors who make inappropriate edits, even if just one. As Toddy1 noted, the section lacked sources. Further, the version I deleted had a sufficiently promotional tone that it was clearly inappropriate for an encyclopedia.
As for why a citation is required, WP:Verifiability is a core policy. This is true with all edits and especially when the contributor has a conflict of interest. —C.Fred (talk) 19:36, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
