Connemara exclave.

[edit]

The Connemara local electoral area lies to the west of Loughs Corrib and Mask and may be viewed as an exclave of the county. The lakes effectively divide the area under the control of the council from the remainder of its territory to the east as the area under the control of Galway City Council is the only land link between the two parts of the county. This may be seen from any map. Are these facts disputed? Laurel Lodged (talk) 22:59, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OR on your part. Please provide reliable sources for this. Snappy (talk) 23:49, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Statutory Instrument has now been referenced. It mentions the Menlough local electoral area. Further down the SI (unquoted) a delineation of the LEA is provided. Turning to the OSI interactive maps now (also sourceable). Leave aside the townlands of Ballydooly, Coolagh, Terryland and Ballinfoyle in said LEA. Concentrate instead on the eponymous townland of Menlough. It touches the lake for a few hundred metres. This townland alone is sufficient to separate the western part from the eastern part of the County. Unless you want to take a boat on the lake. All verifiable from govt sources. You mentioned an SI but provided no link. You then mention a map which is unhelpful and inadequate, and seems to be further OR. I suppose I could take a boat out on the lake but that would be OR on my part. Is there an already published reliable source to back up your assertion? Furthermore, for it to be a proper exclave, that only way that you be able to get to it would be through Galway City Coucil territory. However as you already pointed out, you can take a boat across the lake and since the lake is part of Galway County Council, you never leave the territory of Galway Co Co, so its not an exclave at all.
