As part of expanding on this very interesting topic I added a paragraph on foldit. Foldit is just 1 of many new gwap games to come on the scene, and I think it is important to distinguish how this is different than the ESP game. The scientists behind gwap are not just interested in humans solving problems for them. They want to study how the human brain goes about manipulating the 3d objects and in turn use that information to improve their own code. that's kind of redundant. All games have a purpose. High scores? Learning? Using math or english skills? Even trying to be a game is a purpose.
