Untagged. Classic BOT error as this is a ship, destroyed at Corregidor with only a somewhat extraneous citation that is restaurant related! Palmeira (talk) 20:19, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dimensions/Tonnage[edit]

Grover's table for the ship and its sister is specific with 150' X 28' X 13' dimensions and 900 GT. The 539 tons appears in Shipbuilding History for both ships, but the particular table does not specify the type of tonnage measurement. Both Grover and SBH agree on 150' length with the 144' sometimes being found elsewhere. Again, is it WL or OA?. I removed the very specific tonnage conversions that were not sourced in favor of the 900 GT. Resolution of the 539 measurement may help in adding tonnage specifics of that detail. Update: Fifty Fourth Annual List of Merchant Vessels of the United States . . . for 1922 published by the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Navigation has the details on General Frank M. Coxe (#221980) and General John McE. Hyde (#222147). That is the official U.S. registration information. Both are shown built 1922, 433 gross tons, 191 net tonnage, 145.2 X 28.0 X 12.7 dimensions, passenger service, 24 crew and 1,050 hp. Palmeira (talk) 17:45, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Construction dates detailed in Pacific Marine Review listings of yards and construction during 1922/1923. Dimensions pinned down with 144' length being specified as between perpendiculars. Speed not precisely specified, but suspect it is the Army's mph instead of knots. the value and unit is shown as "16 miles" loaded speed, so an exact conversion would be 13.9 knots. Information, with speed omitted, added 27 August 2014. Palmeira (talk) 19:49, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sinking[edit]

The cited source in Note 7 describing HYDE's sinking describes her as being sunk on or about 15 April 1942. Don't know where the info about her being sunk in December 1941 comes from, but it is wrong. The 16th Naval District Operations log (which is digitized on fold3) mentions her in operation many times after December 1941. 2604:6000:6D42:4800:48DE:1661:29B7:89 (talk) 02:54, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
