Unsourced and erroneous statement

[edit]

I regard the statement that the condottieri's "mode of fighting (which emphasized armored knights on horseback) was rendered practically obsolete by the introduction of the mobile field cannon" as inaccurate. It should be either appropriately sourced, if possible, or deleted. It was the advent of pike and shot infantry that made "armored knights on horseback" obsolete (see e.g. Swiss mercenaries or Battle of Ceresole)Stammer 21:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Thats correct. Changed to pike, as it was the pike that made knights (if slowly) obsolete. ASchudak (talk) 17:52, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not even sure that’s true either. Knights and masses pike formations overlapped for some hundreds of years. Even before pikes, spears fulfilled the same function with a bit less effectiveness. Armored cavalry truly didn’t start to disappear until 18th and 19th centuries. 129.2.192.64 (talk) 03:05, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
