Gun LAWS not gun politics[edit]

This is an entry on "Gun laws in Italy." It is NOT an entry on gun politics in Italy. No politics are mentioned.--达伟 (talk) 17:37, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is one of a whole series of entries on gun politics in different countries. I agree that the word 'politics' has issues, because it is a word that seems to be differently used in the USA and in the UK (and I do not know which usage is closer to the one habitually used in all the other countries where English is commonly spoken as a first or second language) but in view of the number of different "Gun laws in...." entries that have now been set up for different countries, you'd really need to review the lot to determine whether or not they all treat the same subject in different countries. After that, either you add bits to fill in gaps that explain the difference. Or you break up the set by giving them different titles according to what information they contain. And/or you create some redirect pages to accommodate people who find a different title more appropriate. It's all doable, but it would take a lot of time and a strong strategic vision to coordinate. So even doing the preparatory work and establishing the appropriate consensus is quite a big task for someone. Do you know a suitable volunteer? I'm afraid I don't! If the article is entirely about gun laws, not about gun politics, I don't see how it can be part of a series on gun politics. For example, an article about agriculture cannot be part of a series on cooking, even if it happened to deal with plants and vegetables.--达伟 (talk) 16:55, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is possibly a linguistic misunderstanding at work here and it is something that people should be aware of: Sometimes words may not be directly translated from one language to another. In my native language "gun policy" and "gun politics" translate to the same word. However it is not Italian, so we would need someone who is very well versed in both English and Italian to weigh in.

Muzzle loader licensing?[edit]

I was under the impression in that a lot of European countries you didn't need a license to own a muzzle loading or black powder type of gun? Pleasetry (talk) 01:52, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While that may or may not be true but even if it were true, Italy requiring licensing for these type of firearms does not contradict it. It would also not contradict Italy requiring licenses.
