To not merge; while there is some overlap, the current topics (and sports) are sufficiently distinct to warrant separate discussion. Klbrain (talk) 20:09, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that historically in both American and Canadian football, halfback was both an offensive and defensive position. The modern divergence in both sports can be covered on the same page. There is already some mention at Halfback_(American_football)#Overview. There's also the complication of linking of players like Cookie Gilchrist, who played in both the U.S. and Canada and whose position was halfback in both. His infobox links to the American page right now. Halfback (gridiron football) currently redirects to Halfback_(American_football)Bagumba (talk) 06:31, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly oppose. The claims made (overwhelmingly uncited in this article) are contentious enough in applying solely to the NFL. It will only add unnecessary complication, and inevitable contradictions, to combine claims about a position, defined and played differently in two leagues, using different rules. 2601:196:180:DC0:31FD:86EE:F417:250E (talk) 19:19, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - these are 2 different positions. While there is some overlap, especially historically, their subsequent development has been different enough to warrant separate articles. Rlendog (talk) 17:52, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
