- He worked at Cadburys for 44 1/2 years, where here worked in the Sheet Metal Department then the Mould Makers department.
- He taught gymnastics at Fircroft School (the Cadbury school for young employees), which he himself had attended when he started at Cadburys.
- He was the organising secretary of the girls' gymnastic class attached to the Stirchley Young People's Club
- He played cricket for the Birmingham Athletic Club.
- Both his brothers (Willie and Albert) and his 4 sisters (Gertrude, Doreen, Elsie and Florence) also all worked for Cadburys. His Aunt (Eliza Shrimpton) was Richard Cadbury's Housekeeper.
