Untitled[edit]

As other articles list Jodka and Jackson and the NBC source has two Jacksons it seems they got one last name wrong. Socafan 22:34, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did the Americans single out this particular individual? They went to the trouble of obtaining a weapon from his cousin a few doors down, then wandering off in search of a man to kill until finding Hashim Ibrahim Awad. Now if they wanted to let off steam, why didn't they just kill the first man they came across, the victim's cousin? It's all very strange. 80.47.84.31 10:40, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Perhaps?[edit]

Is there really any need to each of the soldiers named in this article to have a page each which essentially conveys the same information? Their individual pages are nearly identical to each other. Modulus86 22:07, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Set up a single page for this unfolding incident and redirect these other pages to it? Sounds like a good idea to me! I need to look at the Iraq War article and other places where this may already be present to find out what else is going on so efforts are not duplicated... --ElKevbo 01:28, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, a single article for this whole story would be a good idea! Modulus86 10:23, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, please do not merge articles for individuals. Note that this article is different from those of the incident and the soldiers in that it is about the dead victim, thus biographic information will not change. The information about the soldiers will change and diversify the articles as most probably not all will get the same verdict. Socafan 09:41, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I concur that a separate article is justified for each defendent, but we should minimize the amount of common information repeated on each page in favor of linking to the main article at Hamdania incident where the shared details can be placed. technopilgrim 21:17, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. The sum total of verifiabl;e, significant, neutral biographical information (per WP:BLP) about these folks is limited pretty much to the details of the incident. Just zis Guy you know? 16:48, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... unfortunately WP:BLP guidelines no longer apply to Mr. Awad as of about 2:30 am April 26th 2006....
In a more serious vein, an editorial reason why separate articles makes sense is that questions of character and background are better featured in separate articles on the individual players than in one combined article. Putting them all in the main article is discordant and unexpected by the reader, and confuses the tone of the article. This is a hyperlinked encyclopedia after all, so if someone wants to find out more about a person and their motivations, they click the person's link. Our fellow Wikipedians got it right by separating the Steven Green article from the Mahmudiyah rape article. For me, exanding on his criminal past in the main incident article comes across as a weasely justification, but featured alone in a separate article it helps to understand the whole picture. -- technopilgrim 18:12, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, no. I already reidrected the soliders' articles to the incident because most of the text in each was word-for-word identical (that's the WP:BLP bit). This article contains no information about this person which is not directly related to the incident. It can be covered there, unless there is substantial biographical information establishing notability per WP:BIO. Otherwise all we're doing is breaking up the narrative. Renamed to "Hashim Ibrahim Awad" to reflect more common spelling[edit]

I've renamed the article from Hasham Ibrahim Awad to Hashim Ibrahim Awad. Although both spellings are found in news accounts, the Hashim spelling is used by the reporter who talked directly with family members [1] and is the much more common spelling per a Google search (35,000 vs 850 references). technopilgrim 21:17, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is the unique information?[edit]

This article appears to contain notihing of substance beyond what is in Hamdania incident. what information is there hewre whihc is (a) significant and (b) missing from that article? Just zis Guy you know? 16:46, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the new version which deletes details of the court case and adds details about the person. Links to his accused murders still deserve mention on his own page, though, so I have left them intact. -- technopilgrim 17:39, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is still all about the court case. Per WP:BIO, what is known about this individual which is notable external to this one incident? Just zis Guy you know? 18:29, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article needs rethinking[edit]

The identy of the man murdered at Hamdania is still (officially) inconclusive. Awad's name was dropped from the prosecution's charges. Bacrito 22:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hashim Ibrahim Awad name was replaced with "“an unknown Iraqi”[edit]

From the Union-tribune: "For months, prosecutors have said Thomas and seven other Camp Pendleton servicemen executed Hashim Ibrahim Awad. But now, they have taken Awad's name off the charge sheet for Thomas and replaced it with “an unknown Iraqi.””
