Some updates needed, not least that he stopped in 2012 after 50 years
[edit]I found this article, [1], which seems reliable but I don't have time to add the updates at present. Please would someone else pick it up. In 1962, aged 22 and bored with factory work, he decided to ride to places that seemed interesting, but after a while, he varied that, deciding to visit every country of the world, which he had achieved by 1996; but he then decided there were more things to see, so he returned to some countries, generally staying a few months in each, before finally, in 2012 aged 72, returning home for the first time in 50 years.
Also, although his original 3-gear steel bike was repaired and refurbished many times, after 580,000 km "when no more repairs were possible", he did get a new bike for the last 68,000 km.
List_of_circumnavigations#Miscellaneous can then be updated with the end date of 2012.
It deserves more attention than I have time to give it! Enginear (talk) 22:57, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
