Hereditary

[edit]

Hereditary sphercytosis is a disease; spherocytosis is a morphological characteristic of RBCs in certain diseases. Since they are not the same thing and there are multiple diseases that can cause sphercytosis of red blood cells, I don't believe this article should be merged.--Jfurr1981 06:25, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the comments at Talk:Spherocytosis. In short, I believe that we ought to merge literally common elements--such as most Symptoms--into the more general article and leave specifically hereditary elements of hereditary sphercytosis in this article.--ojo 2006-01-03@22h02m(UTC)

Dominant

[edit]

Not all HS is dominant; some uncommon forms are recessive. Source: [1]--User:Yoyo 18:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge content from Minkowski–Chauffard syndrome

[edit]

Seems fine to me; they do appear to be the same condition. Should be a quick merge, as there isn't much content on the Minkowski–Chauffard syndrome article. The name Hereditary spherocytosis should be retained however, since this is more descriptive and also is how the disease is most widely known. Rytyho usa (talk) 19:31, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing this. I have completed the merge. LT90001 (talk) 08:36, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Workplan for Hereditary Spherocytosis

[edit]

Workplan as follows:

  • Provide source material updates (most recent citation is over a decade old).
  • Provide citations where missing.
  • Recreate a more formal lead section.
  • Reorganize the article to correspond to the structure provided by the lead section.
  • Adjust the sections to follow standard medical encyclopedia formatting.
  • Add information in all sections to ensure that a reader could master the entirety of the topic from studying this article.
  • While the article is largely neutral in tone, it does occasionally provide persuasive language or phrasing.
  • Prioritization will be given to medical management.

Gensurg22 (talk) 01:50, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Added Priority:
- I decided to better define the pathophysiology via table format, and this led to the natural realization that the table needed dynamic figures that show exactly what is going wrong with the cytoskeleton via illustration. The only issue is the lack of illustrations appropriate for Wikipedia. I will now give time to illustrating these myself, and then donating the images for others to learn from.

Concerning the need for images:
[x] Textbook quality images that pictorially demonstrate the pathogenesis of HS finalized.
[x] Image uploaded for donation to Wiki Commons.
[x] Images added to the new pathophysiology table.

Workplan Update:
  • Provide source material updates (most recent citation is over a decade old). [_]
  • Provide citations where missing. [_] ----> Some of these have been rendered.
  • Recreate a more formal lead section. [x] ----> May revisit after addressing remaining areas (just to reorganize it into proper parallel structure).
  • Reorganize the article to correspond to the structure provided by the lead section. [x]
  • Adjust the sections to follow standard medical encyclopedia formatting. [x]
  • Add information in all sections to ensure that a reader could master the entirety of the topic from studying this article. [_] I am still adding to this article (given this article's extreme importance to medical education, the goal is to achieve B-Class quality).
  • While the article is largely neutral in tone, it does occasionally provide persuasive language or phrasing. [x]
  • Prioritization will be given to medical management. [_] ----> This is the next priority.
It is an honor to have the opportunity to work on this article.
Gensurg22 (talk) 23:40, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Added Priority:
- There is a need to better demonstrate how erythrocytes are "bitten" by macrophages, and thus selected out of circulation as they get "stuck" in the splenic filtration process.

Article Review

[edit]

I have reviewed what you have added so far. The article has definitely taken on a more formal style and the tables/images that have been added are really helpful. The article appears to be very neutral. The only feedback I have at this time is to make sure that the language of the article is easy to understand, particularly for readers without a medical background. I think adding in some simplified language in parentheses behind some of the more scientific language could be helpful for readers. I also see from your updated workplan that you are still working on changes, so I know that some citations are still needed and you acknowledged that. I have added a few other places that I think could use a citation for clarity. Other than that, I think you have done great work so far! Psychittome (talk) 16:04, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Psychittome, thank you for your peer review! I will hit those citation spots, and add cite links to words that may need definitions for less-experienced readers.
Best,
